Materials Research & Development Associate

Simkhai is searching for a talented Materials R&D Associate who will be an integral role in the development of Simkhai's extensive RTW categories. This includes womenswear, menswear, swimwear and denim.ResponsibilitiesFABRIC AND COLOR RESEARCHConduct seasonal fabric and color research based on Simkhai's aesthetic, continue to propel a sense of innovationSeasonal trim and hardware research, incorporate tactile processes and launch custom trim developments with vendorsAttend fabric appointments and assist in pulling selection based on seasonal design directionAssist fabric manager in submitting qualities for competitive sourcingPRINT, ARTWORK AND FABRIC DEVELOPMENTSend artwork files to vendors while steadily tracking progress of strike off's and handloomsAssist fabric manager in issuing lab dip and strike off comments to vendorsWork with artwork designer to properly realize design's visionINTERNAL PROCESSESCreate physical & digital seasonal color palette and distribute accordinglyMaintain fabric WIP, organize vendor's FDSArrange swatches for local dyeing, pleating and conduct additional development trialsIssue fabric & trim PO's, track status with vendors making sure to adhere to calendar due datesMaintain seasonal fabric binder and build seasonal fabric boards for visibility across categoriesPrep seasonal binder for handoff to production teamKeep fabric and print archive organizedCheck in seasonal SMS fabric & tailoring yardage communicating with atelier manager & product development teamCheck in and organize seasonal trims and materials. Maintain archive.QualificationsMust have an undergraduate degree, fashion or creative related preferredMust have a minimum of 2 years industry experienceMust have demonstrated experience with textiles and sourcingMust have excellent oral and written communication skillsMust have strong interpersonal skills for building working relationships within teamsMust have strong time management and organizational skills to establish priorities and meet specific timelinesMust be self-motivated with a strong sense of urgencyMust have enthusiasm for the fashion industry & RTW product cycleExperience in runway collection a plusBenefitsWe offer a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, FSA, 401(k) and PTO.
