LocationCandidates must be able to commute to our locations in Somerville, NJ, and New York City.Basic FunctionThe Design and Project Engineer interfaces with Project Managers, Design, Sales, Manufacturing and directly with costumers as needed, from initial design turnover and in-house modeling, to initiation and approval of technical drawings, sampling and qualification of tools, through to production approval.Job ResponsibilitiesDevelop and review 2D and 3D files (SolidWorks) in collaboration with Sales, Project Managers, and factories to meet project requirements.Design primary and secondary packaging components via 3D modeling and technical drawings.Ensure designs meet optimal standards for molding, assembly, aesthetics, and performance by analyzing dimensions, tolerances, materials, injection points, ejectors, and parting lines.Is a technical expert to design solutions that avoid aesthetic shrinkage, drop test, vacuum tests and weight loss failures while keeping the overall cost and aesthetics in mindConduct technical reviews and analyses during tooling sampling, including dimensional (CpK), functional, and aesthetic evaluations.Seek and provide approvals for tooling and production.Review design turnover documents for initial comments and/or concerns.Provide recommendations based on manufacturing capabilities while considering variables and impacts.Qualify tooling for packaging components.Oversee ongoing quality of production.Address and resolve technical issues with rejected components.Provide technical support for Project Managers.Communicate technical details with manufacturing facilities, clients, and IP attorneys.Meet with customers to provide technical support as necessary.Participate in customer and factory conference calls.Build FDM models for the Sales/Design team upon request.Qualifications / Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or PackagingMinimum of 3 years of technical experience in cosmetics packaging.400+ hours of SolidWorks experience, including non-linear surfacing, complex part creation, and drafting with GD&T knowledge.Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Illustrator.Ability to learn quickly and work independently with minimal supervision.Be a good communicant to clearly give track of progress, possible issues to resolve, ask questions and also give track of the workload.Desired SkillsFamiliarity Expertise with plastic injection molding, blow molding, die casting, thermoforming, and other mass manufacturing processes.Knowledge of measurement systems, assembly tolerance stack-up, tooling qualification procedures, and AQL inspection methods.Creativity and problem-solving skills.Capacity to manage a high workload efficiently.Experience collaborating with IP attorneys.Good communication skillsBenefits:Competitive pay and benefits package.Opportunity to excel in a hybrid work environment (3 days in the office, 2 days remote).Contribute to impactful projects within the dynamic cosmetics packaging industry.Collaborate with a skilled team in an innovative setting.Professional growth and development prospects.If you are an experienced Design Engineer passionate about collaborative success in the cosmetic packaging sector, we encourage you to apply.
