The OpportunityWe're expanding and as our business grows and our product range broadens, we've found it necessary to make significant investments in our organization. Notably, we've completed our new 85,000 sq ft landmark facility which is designed from the ground up to facilitate innovation. We're seeking a talented mechanical engineer to design, test, and build manufacturing solutions. This role is one part engineer, one part fire fighter, and one-part analytical problem solver. This position reports directly to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering. We are dedicated to creating the absolute best apparel and gear products for our nation's most elite war fighters right here in Brooklyn NY. Job ResponsibilitiesProblem solving: Use engineering principles to solve a wide variety of challenging problems related to the manufacturing of tactical apparel and gear products.Part and Assembly design: Use 3D CAD (Solidworks) to design a variety of complex assemblies, convert 3D CAD to manufacturing drawings using GD&T best principles.Process Development: Analyze complicated assembly sequences, write manufacturing/work instructions conduct cycle time studies, calculate manufacturing metrics (throughput, scrap rate, OEE, etc.).Automated Sewing Development: Design, build, and test fixtures, program automated sewing systems, refine automated sewing processes to improve quality and reliability, train production staff on process. Procurement: Coordinate with internal and external resources to procure BOM items, fabricated parts, commercial items. Research relevant equipment needs, develop process requirements, work with vendors to select or develop equipment for manufacturing.Teamwork: Work with a cross functional team of tech designers, engineers, production staff, and product designers to create manufacturing solutions for high quality, high throughput production. Required Experience & QualificationsBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering or similar field Strong 2D CAD Skills (AutoCAD or Draftsight)Strong 3D CAD skills (Solidworks, Fusion, Creo, Catia, Siemens NX, etc.) Demonstrated problem solving skillsHighly relevant skills or experience we are interested in:Manufacturing engineering: Production line design, fixture design, DFM, DFA, DFXApparel manufacturing: Sewing line design, cutting, trimming, bonding, fabric welding Automation: Design of automated systems, robot cells, manufacturing eq, production lines Machining: CNC Mills, 5 Axis Mills, Water Jet Cutting, CNC Lathes, Hypermill, CAD/CAM Programing: Arduinos, Python, PLC's, HMI's, Pattern Tackers, Exenta, shop floor controlRobotics Integration: Automated Sewing Eq., Juki, SCARA's, 6 Axis Robots, Gantry SystemsAdditive Manufacturing Experience: FDM, SLA, SLS, PolyJetComposites Experience: Carbon fiber, Kevlar, layups, vacuum molding, pressing, mold design Simulation Software: FlexSim, Arena, Anylogic, SIMUL8 Tech Designer Skills: Pattern making, sewing, garment construction, Gerber, tech pack designMilitary Experience: knowledge of military apparel or gear design requirements and applications
