A client of Sharp Decisions is hiring for a Senior Research Associate in Foster City, CA - 94404. This is a 12-month contract with possible extensions and offering $55/hour on W2.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Associate III to join the flow cytometry core team within the Research department. The successful candidate will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the flow cytometry core labs and maintain a high-functioning laboratory capable of meeting the needs of companies in Oncology, Inflammation, and Virology therapeutic areas. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, startup, shutdown, daily cleaning and QC of equipment, training and advising on the use of instrumentation, and performing cell sorts. S/he will also be involved in troubleshooting flow-based assays that will improve our understanding of disease pathobiology, help with lab inventory and ordering of reagents, instrument booking platform, etc. Direct experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting is required for this role.Main responsibilities:Perform instrument calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting, interface with field engineersPerform multiparameter cell sorting - set up the sorter and/or operate the sorter for users, optimize cell sorting conditions for given assaysShare best practices in flow cytometry and guide panel design and optimizationExecute experiments aimed at validating standard operating procedures for flow cytometry assaysAssist and train flow core users in the flow technologies we host, as well, with experiment design and analysisCommunicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writingKnowledge, Experience, and Skills:Previous industry and/or flow cytometry core setting experience desiredBasic cell biology and immunology knowledge and technical expertise in performing cell-based assaysFlow Cytometry experience is required, especially cell sorting and use of BD instrumentation (Fortessa, and Aria)Ability to troubleshoot assays and instrumentation as needed, identifying and applying knowledge, problem-solving and critical-thinking skillsExcellent communication skills (both verbal and technical) and interpersonal skills are requiredHighly collaborative, fast learner, able to maintain productive cross-functional interactions, think critically, and work resourcefully to resolve problems as they ariseExcellent computer skills, knowledge of Windows-based systems, and ability to learn new software and hardware quickly
