DevOps Manager (AWS) - Permanent - Raleigh, NC- $160,000 - $175,000.The final salary or hourly wage, as applicable, paid to each candidate/applicant for this position is ultimately dependent on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's/applicant's qualifications, skills, and level of experience as well as the geographical location of the position.Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship not available.Our client is seeking a DevOps Manager (AWS) in Raleigh, NC.Role DescriptionAbout the Role:We are seeking a DevOps Manager to lead our team in building the next generation of Wealth Management systems, emphasizing stability, performance, and monitoring. This role demands extensive hands-on experience and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment.Responsibilities:• Lead a team of DevOps engineers across all technology stacks.• Foster growth and collaboration within the team and across departments.• Manage highly scalable and available distributed systems on cloud platforms.• Automate processes by writing automation and configuration management code to build secure, scalable, and reliable systems.• Identify key system metrics and ensure comprehensive monitoring for new and existing services.• Develop monitoring, supervision, and resiliency mechanisms to maintain platform health and performance.• Oversee deployments, upgrades, and configurations in controlled, pre-production, and production environments with strict operational parameters.• Manage a 24/7/365 vendor DevOps monitoring team with after-hours on-call support.• Verify component and service functionality, ensuring deployments meet expectations; design, create, and document test plans, and potentially code custom test automation frameworks.• Address complex and highly visible tasks supporting multiple projects requiring diverse expertise.• Plan and execute routine application maintenance tasks, including production support and troubleshooting; identify errors, and develop long and short-term solutions.• Stay up-to-date with security patches and proactively address security vulnerabilities and compliance.• Analyze various approaches to DevOps problems, presenting pros and cons to the team to reach an agreed-upon direction.• Gather and understand business requirements with a focus on outcomes.• Provide formal training to Infrastructure staff as needed.• Management: Allocate 60% of time to management duties and 40% to hands-on technical work.• CI/CD Pipelines: Improve and upgrade existing CI/CD pipelines. Develop CI/CD concepts and implement quality gates to ensure automated quality checks at each pipeline stage.• Security Maintenance: Stay up-to-date with security patches, proactively address vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance.• AWS Security: Expertise in AWS security is essential.• Network Security: Experience with DNS, VPN/VPC, IDS/IPS, subnets, security groups, network ACLs, and compliance technologies such as HA/DR, identity management, key management, WAF, and others.Skills & RequirementsRequired Skills:• Experience: 10+ years in DevOps and 4+ years in a managerial role.• On-Call Support: Experience with level 2 or 3 on-call support.• Technical Background: Strong foundation in both Software Development and Infrastructure.• Security Knowledge: Some background in security is needed, with a preference for DevSecOps.• Leadership: Hiring and firing experience is a plus but not mandatory.• Strong AWS and Linux skills (RedHat or Ubuntu) for operations and troubleshooting.• Experience operating and troubleshooting SQL databases in production and performing backups and restorations.• Operational experience with Kubernetes, Docker in production, and familiarity with HashiCorp products.• Expertise in DevOps operations and automation/configuration management using tools like Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Artifactory, GIT, etc.• Ability to project manage or act as a project lead while providing subject matter expertise and technical direction.• Strong experience with APM tools such as NewRelic, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, and log analysis/monitoring tools like Splunk, CloudWatch, Nagios, SysDig, etc.• Experience in network security (DNS, VPN/VPC, IDS/IPS, subnets/security groups/network ACLs) and compliance technologies (HA/DR, identity management, key management, WAF, etc.).• Understanding of security best practices for financial institutions.• BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experienceTechnical Environment:• Operating Systems: Predominantly Linux (65%) with some Windows (35%).• Cloud Platform: 100% AWS cloud environment.Location Requirements:• Office Attendance: In-office presence required from Tuesday to Thursday.• Proximity: Candidates should live within a certain radius of the office.Benefits/Other Compensation:401K, Health, Dental, VisionWhy Hays?You will be working with a professional recruiter who has intimate knowledge of the industry and market trends.
