Middle School Literacy Teacher

The Sycamore School, a mastery-based learning school, is seeking a full-time English Teacher to co-teach two Literacy classes as well as an integrated middle school class with cross-curricular staff. Responsibilities include helping to build out our Literacy program and create curricula that integrates English, history, and science content. This position is also responsible for planning and supervising weekly field trips that are an extension of the learning and support the mission of the school.ResponsibilitiesDevelop curriculum that integrates literacy content with transferable skillsCreate differentiated lesson plans that are tailored to student needs and interestsProvide individualized instructionDevelop hands-on learning experiences with a reflection componentCreate and follow routines and procedures in conjunction with other staff to create consistency across classesBuild positive relationships with students and staffCollaborate effectively with staffProvide appropriate supports and accommodations for students who have poor executive functioning skills, anxiety, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and/or non-verbal learning disabilitiesManage classroom behavior to create a warm and safe classroom environmentMeet in cross-curricular teams for transdisciplinary curriculum development for core subjectsMonitor and communicate student progress to students, parent/guardians, and other teachersGive timely and effective feedback to students to improve student productsQualifications and SkillsSkills Needed:Proficient in English - strong written and verbal skillsStrong background in LiteracyTech savvy, including proficiency using Google Classroom, Google Docs and Google SheetsStrong organizational and time management skillsStrong communication skillsAbility to give and take feedback in a constructive and professional mannerFriendly, reliable, accountable and trustworthyCan work independently or as a teamFlexible and calm under pressureEthical, honest and has high integrityRespects confidentialityEducation and other qualifications:Bachelor degree requiredExperience in classroom managementPrevious teaching experience
