Job Description:Position: Optical Modeling EngineerLocation: Sunnyvale, CA - REMOTEDuration: 12+ Months (Possibility of Extension)Pay Rate: $127.70/ hr on w2Job Summary:Our client is seeking an Optical Modeling Engineer to work on developing and validating optical models for an end-to-end camera simulation pipeline. The role involves collaborating with optics and camera teams, working with simulation software, and driving the study and validation of new camera technologies for products across Smart Glasses, AR, and MR. This position is ideal for individuals excited about applying their skills in optical design and simulation to advance camera technologies in the AR/VR industry.Job Responsibilities:Develop and validate optical models as part of an imaging simulation pipeline for camera hardware exploration, data generation, and product architecture validation.Collaborate with internal optics and camera teams to refine and optimize modeling requirements for improved fidelity and efficiency.Work with software partners like Synopsis and Ansys to understand their modeling solutions, limitations, and find optimized solutions.Partner with developers of other pipeline components (e.g., graphics renderers, sensor models) to understand tradeoffs and optimize overall simulation performance.Conduct experiments and collect data to validate modeling accuracy and performance.Research and apply the latest imaging modeling technologies to enable realistic simulation of camera behaviors.Innovate and develop new calibration and metrology technologies for camera systems.Skills and Experience:Expertise in imaging optics design and optimization.Hands-on experience programmatically modeling complex lens behaviors using Python or Matlab scripting languages.Proficiency in using optical design software such as Code V or Zemax, including knowledge of ray tracing principles.Strong understanding of image formation processes, including spectrum, optics/aberrations, PSF, sensor noise, Fourier theory, and sampling/aliasing.Ability to manage projects independently from start to finish with minimal direction.Good to Have:Experience in optics design and ray tracing software development (Code V, Zemax).Experience in modeling imaging systems, calibration, and metrology.Familiarity with image quality testing, metrics, and analysis (MTF/SNR).Knowledge of image sensors and image processing algorithms.Education:Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant field.
