Assistant Deputy Counsel with the NYS Courts Location: Albany, NYOffice: NYS Courts, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge (DCAJ) Outside of NYCSalary: $126,278Application Deadline: January 15 - Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume via email to: Andria Bentley, Chief of StaffJob DescriptionThe New York State Unified Court System is seeking a highly qualified and motivated professional to serve as Assistant Deputy Counsel in the Office of the Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Outside of NYC. This position provides critical legal and project-based support, addressing a variety of complex legal, operational, and administrative matters.Responsibilities:Review new and proposed legislation to assess legal and operational impacts on trial courts.Analyze and approve communications and documents related to employee administrative or disciplinary actions.Prepare determinations for the DCAJ following employee disciplinary hearings.Represent the DCAJ in meetings with external agencies, stakeholders, and advisory groups.Conduct legal research and draft reports, memoranda, and other legal documents on complex issues with significant implications for court administration.Review and analyze data, reports, legislation, and case law on sensitive or complex topics, providing confidential recommendations to the DCAJ.Draft correspondence in response to complaints, inquiries, and requests for information.Act as the DCAJ's representative at meetings involving special advisory committees, task forces, and other stakeholders.Assist with special projects as assigned by the DCAJ.Travel may be required.Qualifications:A strong legal background with expertise in legal research, policy analysis, and court operations.Exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational skills.Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.Familiarity with New York State laws, court operations, and administrative procedures is preferred.Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
