Primary Purpose:The Publishing Coordinator role offers the opportunity to develop job experience in two related fields: communications and scholarly publishing. The Publishing Coordinator will be a key player in helping the functions of both departments run smoothly by assisting with day-to-day operational tasks for the journal CHEST portfolio (consisting of the flagship journal and two open access journals), as well as for CHEST social media channels, the CHEST website, e-newsletters, the CHEST Physician publication (digital and print), the CHEST Advocates digital publication, and more.Essential Functions/Responsibilities:Demonstrate a passion for crushing lung disease and embody CHEST values: honor the team, lead with integrity, leverage passion, cultivate innovation, and have serious fun.Manage multimedia development activities for the journal CHEST portfolio, including coordinating with Editorial Board members on assignments and resource development; scheduling and attending podcast recordings; and managing the review and approval of materials for distribution with issue launches.Coordinate with the Communications team on the planning and development of social media marketing for issue launches across the three publications and for regular awareness initiatives outside of monthly promotion. As the Multimedia landscape of the journal expands, coordinate with volunteer Multimedia Liaisons on the identification of content for promotion and the development and dissemination of launch schedules to support additional promotion by journal leaders.Coordinate with Editorial Board members on scheduling of regular meetings and assist the Senior Managing Editor, Journals, with the development and dissemination of resources for those meetings.Manage incoming invited content proposals for the journals, including tracking proposal data, disseminating proposals to the relevant journal leaders, and managing author communications.Assist the Senior Peer Review Specialist with onboarding and offboarding tasks, including Editorial Board data tracking and dissemination of training materials.Assist the Senior Managing Editor, Journals on other production-related tasks, including developing regular traffic books, roadmaps, and other monthly issue production and post-production needs.Maintain and update assigned website sections, ensuring content is up-to-date, accurate, and consistent across all communication platforms. Solicit topics for promotion from Communications and Marketing teams, keeping schedules on track. Work with the creative team to commission required video, image, or design resources for communication campaigns.Assist with developing social imagery and writing social posts to promote CHEST publications, journals, and other content as assigned. Schedule social posts and assist in tracking and reporting out performance metrics.Assist in the management of copyediting services for the organization, working with the Communications Specialist to track incoming requests, assign to editors, and return edited copy to stakeholders.Write promotional and content briefs for CHEST newsletters and website, with the potential opportunity to write longer-form features for web and print.Required Qualifications and CompetenciesBachelor's degree in marketing, communications, English, journalism, or related field, with exceptionally developed written and organizational skills.2+ years of experience working in a fast-paced publishing environment or equivalent skill.Strong attention to detail and experience proofreading content.Familiarity working with member-based leadership or professionals in a volunteer capacity where delivery of services was required.Experience with digital publishing workflows such as content management systems (eg, SiteCore), content distribution platforms (eg, HubSpot), analytics packages, and project management software (eg, Wrike).Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and distinct workstreams and identify opportunities for explicit alignment of content areas to achieve strategic objectives on time and within budget.Comfort with and ability to get up to speed on medical terminology and emerging topics via self-study and leveraging volunteer subject matter experts.Working knowledge of AMA, AP, or other editorial styles; ability to establish proficiency in one or more styles.Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Google products in a Mac environment.Benefits:While we offer benefits that you'd expect from any forward-thinking, progressive organization, we offer a lot of extras too, including the standardization of a hybrid working environment. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
