The Associate Vice President for Student Development (AVP) reports to the Vice President for Student Success and is a vital member of the division's leadership team. This role provides strategic vision, skilled planning, program development, and effective management to support student academic success and holistic development. Key areas of responsibility include Student Life, Student Achievement (My College Success Network), Advising, Career and Transfer Services (ACTS), and the Department of Accessibility, Community Standards, and Student Well-Being.Additionally, the AVP serves as the College's Title IX Coordinator, advancing strategies in academic and career advising while promoting seamless student support services that enhance degree completion and student success. The AVP actively addresses student and institutional performance gaps, fosters diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and enhances the student experience by integrating programs and services across the division.The AVP remains current with best practices in higher education, particularly within community colleges, to champion initiatives that drive continuous improvement and institutional excellence.Residency and Work Authorization RequirementsEmployees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must reside in Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not provide Visa sponsorship for this position.Required EducationA Master's degree in a related field such as Counseling, Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, or Community College Leadership is required.Alternatively, an appropriate certification (e.g., Law Degree, Organizational Development, or Human Development) will be considered.Required ExperienceAt least seven years of progressive leadership experience in an academic setting.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesProven ability to hire, develop, supervise, and evaluate staff while fostering a collaborative and productive environment.Expertise in developing, monitoring, and optimizing budgets to align with strategic goals.Skilled in data-driven decision-making to set and achieve annual goals.Strong knowledge of policy creation, implementation, and compliance with institutional and legal standards.Demonstrated success in planning, assessing, and evaluating programs and services for continuous improvement.Proficiency in data analysis and using key performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance decision-making.Advanced conflict resolution skills to address conduct violations and behavioral issues effectively.Experience leading intervention services, such as managing Care Teams and Student Intervention Programs.Expertise in holistic advising, transfer, and career services to enhance retention and student success.Strong communication and collaboration skills to engage with internal departments, external partners, and stakeholders.Skilled in overseeing the student code of conduct with fairness and policy compliance.Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that promotes belonging and equitable access for all students.Experience in designing and delivering enriching cocurricular experiences and leadership development opportunities.
