Legal.io is working with a leading FinTech company who is seeking a Product Counsel. You will proactively assess legal risk and provide smart, practical guidance to stakeholders throughout the financial product development lifecycle. You will report to an Assistant General Counsel and work closely with members of the Legal team and cross-functional teams across the organization. This is a year long contract that is hybrid in downtown Oakland. Scope of WorkTitle: Product Counsel (Secondment)Experience: 5+ YearsDuration: 12 Months (From 2/4/2025 until 2/3/2026)Pay Rate: $140 - $160 / hr ($280,000 - $320,000 annualized)Benefits99% covered vision, medical, dental, 401kLocation: Hybrid (Oakland, CA, USA)Hours: 40 Hours / WeekJob description:What you'll do:Take ownership as the Legal representative to help our Product, Engineering, Copy and Design teams in developing innovative and compelling personal finance tools for consumers.Lead cross-functional projects with multiple colleagues to manage existing risks or proactively identify and mitigate upcoming risksAssess the business impact of new and evolving legal and regulatory requirements in the consumer financial products spaceEducate partners in a simple, easy to understand way about regulatory issues as they relate to a wide range of products and featuresProvide meaningful, business-savvy guidance that creatively solves legal and business issuesMake assertive decisions on when and how to take smart risks to achieve the business's goalsMinimum basic requirements:JD from a top law school and excellent credentialsMember of the State Bar or in-house certified in NC5-7 years of experience, including in consumer finance and privacy laws, such as the TILA, FCRA, ECOA, and GLBAPreferred qualifications:Experience in fintech and consumer-facing platforms a big plusAbility to lead projects involving cross-functional partnersOutstanding interpersonal communication skillsIntellectual creativity and problem-solving skills that involve taking smart risksLegal.io is committed to the principle of equal opportunity.
