Join a dynamic team at Detroit Transportation Corporation, owner and operator of the Detroit People Mover, Michigan's only automated light rail system, operating on an elevated track located and connecting Detroit's Business District. The Detroit People Mover has 13 stations, placing riders steps away from sporting and entertainment venues, restaurants, lodging, landmarks, and more! JOB SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Payroll Accountant administers all facets of payroll and payroll-related transactions, including, timekeeping, accounts payable, journal preparation, accruals, software set-up, and updates, in accordance with Michigan labor rules, DTC policy, union agreements, and generally accepted accounting principles. Routinely provide payroll-related data for internal and external requestors. Maintain all payroll-related files, both electronic and hard-copy. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs all payroll activities in compliance with policies and union agreementsAdministers all aspects of payroll utilizing the payroll system, which includes computing and transmitting via personal computer and modem Calculates sales commissions and bonuses, if any are offeredCompiles time sheets and calculates overtimeMaintains organized payroll records, electronically and hard-copyPrepares/downloads routine payroll reports and distributes as necessary internally and externallyPrepares payroll general ledger entries for bi-weekly payroll and monthly accrualsReconciles payroll-related general ledger accountsCompletes correspondence regarding payroll information for unemployment, IRS, Dept. of Labor, etc.Reviews and coordinates the distribution of W-2 formsReviews payroll tax returns and other information both quarterly and annuallyAssists with payroll-related budgetingAssists with processing vendor check requests, as neededServes as petty cash custodian; documents, distributes, and reconciles petty cashPrepares all reconciliations and year-end work papers pertaining to payrollActively solicits feedback from colleagues and supervisor on opportunities for growth and developmentIncorporates safety into all aspects of job functionsMust work within established methods, practices, procedures, policies of the DTC, and federal or state lawsPerforms other duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Associate degreeCombination of education and experience may substitute for minimum requirementsPreferred:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Excellent attention to detailExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsBasic math skillsSelf-motivatedExcellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlinesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsProficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.)Ability to work professionally with vendors and employees at all levelsOTHER REQUIREMENTS:Familiarity and experience with the following software programs: Paycor, Novatime, and Paychex.Detroit Transportation Corporation ("DTC") is an equal opportunity employer.
