These four entities are:Forestry & Utility DivisionEnvironmental DivisionTechnology & Innovation DivisionSustainability DivisionJOB SUMMARY: The Desert Tortoise Biology Lead will manage desert tortoise biology projects, combining field and office work while applying technical expertise. The role requires strong writing skills, leadership, and a commitment to developing a long-term consulting career in environmental biology.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:Conduct special status plant and wildlife surveys, including desert tortoise and nesting bird surveysPerform habitat assessments and construction compliance monitoringConduct noxious weed surveys, agricultural insect pest surveys, and raven point count surveysAssist in managing a field office, ensuring efficient operations and coordinationDevelop and manage Survey 123 tools and GIS data for project documentation and analysisProvide leadership and supervision for field teams, ensuring high-quality survey executionEnsure compliance with relevant permit requirements for biological surveys and monitoringDemonstrate strong writing skills for report preparation, proposals, and documentationCommit to developing a long-term consulting career in environmental biology and project managementMaintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetingsSupport, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownershipComply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and proceduresOTHER DUTIES: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.Position may require some outside travelJOB REQUIREMENTS:Mojave Desert Tortoise Biologist Authorized by USFWS and CDFWDegree in biology, natural resource management, environmental studies or similarAbility to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditionsCompetence using global positioning system units, maps, ipads, and submeter accuracy devicesThe ability to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle over rough terrainThe ability to perform work duties independently or as part of a teamClear communicator, highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, and dependableA working knowledge of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendorsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Familiarity with both insect and plant agricultural pest identification and managementCDFW Authorized Mohave Ground Squirrel BiologistCapable GIS and Survey 123 developer or willingness to learn. Familiarity with ESRI GIS applications (including desktop, ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey123, etc.)Experience leading a field team, capable of managing work assignments with team members, troubleshooting in the fieldExperience capturing or handling wildlife species using specialized equipmentPlant and plant community identification skills for species common to the Mojave DesertExperience working with utility companiesSurvey experience with any of the following species: Mohave ground squirrel, Burrowing Owl, Kit Fox, Swainson's Hawk, American Badger, Logger Head Shrike, Lane Mountain Milk Vetch, Clokey's cyptantha, Desert Cymopterus, Barstow wooly sunflower, Mojave Menodora, Creamy blazing star, Mojave Monkeyflower, Bever dam breadroot, Parish's phacelia, or Mojave Spine FlowerExperience conducting avian point count surveys and raven management actionsStrong technical report writing skillsPrior experience working in Utah, Arizona, and California or Nevada
