Established in 2018, Harbor.ai is Venture-backed and based in New York.About the Role: We're looking for a Data Engineer/MLOps Engineer to build and maintain the data infrastructure and machine learning platforms that power our insurance underwriting automation. You'll work at the intersection of data engineering and machine learning operations, ensuring our ML models are deployed efficiently and our data pipelines are robust and scalable. This role is 100% on-site at our corporate Headquarters in New York City.Required:4+ years of experience in data engineering or MLOpsStrong expertise in Python and SQLAdvanced knowledge of data pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow)Experience with ML experimentation and model tracking platforms (e.g., MLflow, Weights & Biases)Expertise in building and maintaining data warehouses and lakesStrong background in ETL/ELT processes and data modeling (e.g., dbt)Experience with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelinesProficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)Track record of implementing monitoring and observability solutions (e.g., Datadog)Experience integrating and managing multiple data sources via APIsKnowledge of data versioning tools and practices (DVC, Git LFS)Strong understanding of data security and compliance requirementsPreferred:Experience with interpretable ML methods (e.g., SHAP, LIME, rule-based models)Published work in ML/AI conferences or journals (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI)Experience with reinforcement learning or natural language processingKnowledge of insurance industry data structures and standardsBackground in feature store implementation and managementExperience with distributed computing frameworksStartup experienceUnderstanding of SOC II compliance requirementsWhat You'll Do:Design and implement scalable data pipelines for processing complex insurance dataBuild and maintain MLOps infrastructure for model deployment and monitoringIntegrate and manage data from multiple sources (commercial APIs, open-source datasets)Implement robust data versioning and lineage tracking for ML training datasetsDesign systems for periodic model updates and dataset refresh cyclesHelp to lead the implementation of data quality monitoring and validation systemsCollaborate with data scientists to streamline model deployment processesImplement and maintain data observability solutionsDrive best practices for data governance and documentationPlease note that any emails from recruiters will be printed, then ceremoniously disposed of.Note to All Applicants: Harbor.ai is committed to providing reasonable support (called accommodations) in our recruiting processes for candidates with disabilities, long term conditions, mental health conditions, or sincerely held religious beliefs, or who are neurodivergent or require pregnancy-related support.
