I. SUMMARY: The successful candidate plays an integral role in Ostomy Research and Development initiatives. The primary responsibilities of the role are to work with engineers and scientists from Research and Development on prototyping new products or product changes, product testing, evaluating new technologies, and development of new methods or processes. II. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will have responsibilities for:Building prototypes according to detailed instructions and drawings.Preparing material and/or product samples for testing per test method instructions.Performing laboratory testing per established test methods and/or protocols.Creating and maintaining effective and accurate recordsUtilizing the electronic document management system to create and maintain electronic laboratory notebook entriesGenerating basic MS Excel spreadsheets of test resultsPerforming weekly eye wash and safety shower inspectionsPerforming routine preventative maintenance on equipment.Organizing and cleaning lab spaces as neededIdentifying inefficiencies and roadblocks in own workParticipating in gauge R&Rs for test methodsCompleting ongoing training requirementsOther duties as assignedIII. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience / Education Requirements2-year associate degree, Trade Certification or Bachelor's in a technical field and 0 - 2 years of experience working as a technician in an industrial/research laboratory setting, medical device industry preferred; or Specialized skills/technical knowledgeAbility to work under the direction of other technicians, engineers, or scientistsDemonstrates working knowledge of technologies and processes used by the technical functionStrong communication skills, both orally and technical writing skillsDemonstrates a functional understanding of experimental designIs familiar with equipment and processes used in new product development laboratories, for example leak testers, heat sealers, etc.Familiar with Universal Test Equipment and SoftwareWorking knowledge of MS Office Suite, including ExcelPossesses rote problem-solving skillsFamiliarity with medical device quality and regulatory systems preferredEssential Functions of the RoleTalking, walking, vision, hearing, fine motor skills, writing, lifting up to 30 lbs (occasional), and pushing.Some but not all aspects of this job could be modified to accommodate the physical abilities of a handicapped associate.
