Implements, monitors, and evaluates the overall business functions of the surgical and endoscopy service units. Works collaboratively with Nurse Managers, OR Support and Surgical staff to ensure fiscally responsible unit operations. Oversees charge and billing related functions, materials program development and implementation, product standardization and coordination. Facilitates the capital and operational budget preparation, implementation and coordinates the monthly budget variance reporting process for all operational units. Supervises non-clinical support staff.Manages: OR Materials Management StaffEducation/Training:Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferredLicenses/Certification: None required.Required Qualifications and Skills: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Healthcare Materials Management in an acute care setting, preferably with involvement in OR and Surgical Services environment.Knowledge of business administrative functions including budget development and management, cost analysis, operations analysis, and project management.Knowledge of business administrative functions including budget development and management, cost analysis, operations analysis, and project management.Demonstrated experience / ability to promote favorable working relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, staff, management, and vendors. Excellent communication skills, ability to discuss business information / concepts with clinicians / clinical administrators Ability to compile data from various sources and to analyze and interpret the data in order to provide alternatives and make recommendations.Strong analytic and critical thinking skills.Strong computer skills, Cerner, Workday preferred, and Microsoft Office required. Ability to manage multiple priorities and to manage projects from initiation to completion within prescribed schedule and utilization of resources.Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.Preferred Qualifications and Skills: Prior work within the Perioperative Services Division.Essential Job Functions: Implements, monitors, and evaluates the overall business functions of the service units.Responsible for oversight and submission of daily patient supply charges including appropriate rev codes and HPHCS where appropriate.Responsible for establishing inventory control processes that enable compliance with approved budget(s). Implements a mechanism which allows for product requests to be evaluated from clinical, cost and service perspectives. Works collaboratively with OR Management to facilitate and manage product and equipment trials.Develops and implements a mechanism for equipment acquisition, storage, and maintenance on an ongoing basis.Supervises OR Material Management staff, reviews work assignments and oversees supplemental staff assigned to special projects, i.e., annual inventory count.Mentors staff regarding inventory management, consignment management, cost containment, expired product waste and other special projects.Ensures ongoing and annual review of assigned personnel to assess work performance, identify learning needs and set mutual goals.Ensures appropriate communication regarding practices, equipment or supplies which affect the cost per case and billing/coding practices.Identifies opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost reduction and collaborates with appropriate managers to effect implementation.Assists in the development of capital and operating budget consistent with organizational goals.Reviews monthly financial reports for accuracy, develops the monthly budget variance report and meets monthly with nursing leadership to review expenses and develops explanations for negative and positive variances, as well as, corrective action plans.Serves on hospital Value Analysis Committee and OR Value Analysis Subcommittees, manages business and financial projects, as assigned. Shares cost-effective concepts to optimize patient outcomes without sacrificing quality. Supports GPO driven expense reduction and utilization review initiatives.Initiates cost containment strategies and monitoring processes in alignment with volume shifts and procedural profitability. Utilizes data to develop strategies to decrease cost per case and identifies opportunities to standardize equipment, supplies, and implants. Compares cost per case by physician within each specialty on a quarterly basis.Participates in policy/procedure development related to OR Support Services areas of responsibility.Collaborates with Nurse Managers, Surgeons and OR Committee to determine growth opportunities for Perioperative Services. Supports Perioperative Services Senior Director and senior leadership in the identification of new services and development of business plans, including cost/benefit analyses for capital expenditures.Ensures implementation and ongoing oversight of regulatory requirements, including Department of Health and DNV.Participates in continuous quality improvement team activities and serves as project leader as required.
