Position: Quality Assurance DirectorReports to: PresidentManages Others: YesReq'd Education: B.S. Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related field preferredReq'd Experience: 5 years managing othersReq'd Travel: SomeQuality Assurance & Food Safety1) Contribute to consistent product quality, a safe working environment, and good manufacturing practices by managing the following Quality Assurance and Sanitation personnel: Sanitation ManagerQA ManagerQuality System SpecialistDocument Control Administrator R&D Assistant2) Ensure consistent compliance with all regulatory and company requirements by: a) Managing and coordinating the Global Food Safety Initiative using the FSC22000 standards. FSC22000 standards include prerequisite programs, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), and Food Safety programs. b) Serving as liaison and plant contact for all regulatory (ie: FDA, USDA, ODA, OSHA, Oregon Tilth, Orthodox Union, etc.) and 3rd party auditors (ie: AIB, NFPA, customer appointed auditors, etc.) c) Overseeing that sound pest control programs are in place for all facilities and are properly maintained to include procedural documentation and routine schedules d) Participating in trade association functions to stay abreast of current issues and trends e) Chair and coordinate the activities the MFI Food Safety Team. 3) Build quality, safety, and high yields into all aspects of manufacturing processes by partnering with department leaders to: a) Develop and maintain a Vendor Approval Program b) Develop and/or maintain a Vendor Compliance Program (product specifications, kosher certificates, organic certificates, annual audit reports, supplier complaint reports, pesticide testing reports, COAs, etc.) c) Conduct process and formulation reviews and yield analysis using statistical methodology to develop, monitor, and/or modify internal and external specifications and identify opportunities for process changes d) Promote safe working conditions and safe employee practices4) Contribute to the sales growth of the company and assist in providing exceptional customer service by working with Sales & Marketing to: a) Submit all information and documentation necessary to aid customers in their product approval processes b) Ensure that Company becomes and/or remains an approved supplier by submitting product specs, nutritional analysis, export certification, supplier questionnaires, audit follow up reports, etc. as required by customers c) Submit all information and documentation necessary for each customer order based on customer requirements (ie: COAs, Letters of Guarantee, etc.) c) Research, respond to, and resolve customer complaints proactively and thoroughly at the time they are reported d) Participate in conference calls, customer visits, sales calls, etc. as needed Product Development1) Manage product development function by: a) Establishing clear objectives, procedures, and process development methods to achieve customer acceptance, C.O.S., and operational roll-out goals b) Leading multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful completion of projects (large & small scale) c) Overseeing the development of formulations, prototypes, pilot plant samples and scale-up of products in a live production environment d) Tracking, documenting, analyzing, presenting & cataloguing important project resultsLanguage Skills: Ability to read and interpret document such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write complex reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the company.Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
