MAJOR OBJECTIVES:The major objectives of the sales manager position are to lead and manage a team of both inside and outside sales representatives to obtain the budgeted growth and profit for the nursery. Direct and support your team in providing outstanding customer communication and service while assisting in resolving issues that may arise. The sales manager also relays communication from the nursery director and other support staff to the sales team and communicates sale information with the production team.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:· Manage, train, develop, and provide direction for the Inside and outside sales representatives that report to you. · Develop a weekly work schedule to include sales representatives.o Work with potential, existing or former customers.o Help employees focus on customer service, customer retention, and enhancement sales. o Develop specific goals (quantitative) for sales representatives. Measuring results and scheduling follow up and action plans.· Help the sales representative exceed established sales and profitability goals in the following areas:o Achieve or exceed top line sales goals.o Monitor sales to ensure an adequate price per tree.o Measure and monitor discount rates per customer in accordance with sales goals. o Work with the inventory and production managers to meet established sales goals.o Execute billing within the specified timelines and maintain accounts receivable within established allowable limits. Resolve collection problems.o Respond with tact to customer complaints and promptly resolve them to ensure constant customer satisfaction.o Follow through with accurate paperwork as required per our standard operating procedures. Assure that production personal have the necessary information on all sales from you and your team(s) to effectively produce the work, satisfy the customer, and meet profitability goals.· Conduct bi-monthly performance reviews and goal reviews with individual development plans for your direct reports.· Assist in goal setting and developing sales targets for your team(s).o Actively participate in decision making in the department and work to continually improve its operation. o Assist in projecting annual sales goals and budget figures. Contribute to in-house meetings and brainstorming sessions. · Fill in for sales representatives during scheduled vacations or other absences and assure the customer is not negatively affected in their absence.· Identify problem areas, make suggestions, and assist in implementing solutions in conjunction with the nursery director.· Maintain Goodmark's positive image in the industry through professional communication and interaction with clients, vendors, fellow employees, etc.o Become actively involved in trade organizations for networking purposes to enhance sales potential. · Establish a good working relationship with your manager and fellow employees and clients, and keep your manager informed of progress and any problems on the job.· Any other duties as directed by management.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:· Horticultural knowledge strongly preferred.· The ability to efficiently coordinate and complete numerous activities simultaneously.· The ability to identify problems and work in conjunction with others to implement effective solutions.· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.· Focus on and believe in providing excellent customer care.PREREQUISITES:· 3-5 years previous sales management experience.· Bachelor Degree in horticulture or related field with some design exposure strongly preferred. · The capacity to conduct tours as well as visual inspections of the nursery.
