Works closely with the Director of Administration, West Coast; lawyers; paralegal leadership across the firm to ensure best-in-class service delivery. Manages talent development and performance evaluations with vision toward evolving needs. The Paralegal Supervisor is a working paralegal, with senior level knowledge, skills, and expertise in their practice area. The Paralegal Supervisor maintains their own case load, meeting the set billable hours for the position. Ensures client service and satisfaction are attained in all areas of position.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Working with the Director of Administration, West Coast, the Paralegal Supervisor is responsible for:Collaborates with paralegal management across offices to ensure skills, knowledge, and paralegal support are consistent across offices and within each practice group to reflect and deliver best-in-class service.Collaborates with paralegal management across offices to coordinate the distribution and assignment of paralegal work to ensure that paralegal professionals maintain and meet their billable hours goals.Manages the professional development of direct reports: provides guidance and mentorship; conducts regular group meetings; drafts and works through individual development plans; and provides regular feedback as appropriate and through monthly one-on-one meetings.In collaboration with Talent team and paralegal management, provides guidance and training to lawyers and case teams regarding best practices for using paralegal support.In coordination firm departments, provides and ensures direct and substantive orientation for new hires.Prepares timely, substantive, and strategically aligned performance evaluations.Identifies and timely addresses employee relations and performance concerns; collaborates with Human Resources to support effective and appropriate resolution.In collaboration with Supervising Paralegal, Paralegal Development, ensures that direct reports are knowledgeable regarding practice-related and technical matters.Maintains active case load and meets billable hours requirements in alignment with hours expectation for the position.Approves time off requests, reviews attendance, monitors CLE compliance, and approves timecards.Ensures Firm policies and practices are followed; promotes consistency and fairness, maintains open door policy, and promotes open dialog.Assesses support needs; recommends staffing adjustments to ensure effective structure and staffing levels to meet best-in-class service objectives.Participates in recruiting for department.Firm Values, Confidentiality, and Safety:Consistently promotes and models the Firm's values in leadership, teamwork, work product, and personal interaction.Ensures compliance with the Firm's Confidentiality Policies and ethical obligations, including safeguarding confidential and personal information, and reporting any suspected breach appropriately and immediately.Adheres to the Firm's General Safety Practices and any unique safety practices for department and building.Professional Development:Remains current in industry trends; maintains membership and participates in IPMA.Ensure expertise in technology relevant to the position; proactively uses most current technology to further teamwork, client service, and efficiencOther duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSMinimum five years as a practicing paralegal.Bachelors degree and/or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved institution.Previous supervisory experience, with record of developing service-oriented teams.Applied SkillsHigh client service ethic and a proven record in delivering exemplary client satisfaction to external and internal clients.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Excellent organization, time management and planning skills.Ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines.Proven ability to work well with all levels of management, staff, and attorneys.Strong technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite. Proficiency in, SharePoint, Relativity, Lexis / Westlaw, and trial presentation and other practice-specific software preferred.Jenner & Block LLP is an equal opportunity employer.
