Credit Union of Georgia is looking for a talented mortgage underwriter to help our growing mortgage team.The role of a Mortgage Underwriter encompasses analyzing and verifying loan applications, evaluating risk, and making loan eligibility decisions. An underwriter should be able to exercise sound judgment based on detailed analysis and ensure all documentation complies with internal policies, secondary market guidelines, and relevant regulations.This is an in person opportunity. It is not remote or hybrid.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for upholding and adhering to Credit Union of Georgia brand standards including following all the steps of our unique member journEASE experience and to Engage, Ask, Solve, and Excite and deliver top level member service every time.Reviews the residential loan application file for accuracy and completeness. Determines if the application meets established internal policies and procedures, secondary market guidelines, and mortgage regulatory compliance.Utilize Freddie Mac Loan Product Advisor or manual underwriting methods in reviewing loans.Effectively communicate loan decisions and requirements to Mortgage Processor and/or Mortgage Loan Originator.Promptly provide responses and documentation for Quality Control audit findings.Assist with or provide team training as needed to keep team abreast of secondary market, mortgage insurers or compliance changes.Each member of the team should be able to communicate efficiently and openly to achieve goals in a collaborative, positive manner. Team member will demonstrate flexibility and serve as back-up in other mortgage roles, as needed.Complete additional training when assigned to stay abreast of compliance, guidelines, servicing, and market changes.Comply with all Credit Union policies and procedures, applicable laws, and regulations, including but not limited to, the SAFE Act, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.Other duties as assigned by Mortgage Management.QualificationsProficient technical skillsExperience with mortgage loan softwareEffective communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)Strong analytical skills and attention to detailTime management and organizational skillsAbility to explain technical concepts in simple terms.Willingness to learn new concepts to grow and advance.Maintain a professional image that represents the values of Credit Union of GeorgiaBe an ambassador for exceptional internal and external member service.ExperienceMinimum five years of similar or related experience.Proven work experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or similar role preferred.Education/Certifications/LicensesA two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school is preferred.Incumbents are required to maintain their registration active, and current, with the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) throughout their employment.Credit Union of Georgia is an equal opportunity employer.No phone calls.
