Join our team if you want to be part of our Gotham Health Family, a person-centered, fully integrated, and innovative ambulatory care network that enables all New Yorkers to live their healthiest lives.Job DescriptionPURPOSE OF POSITIONUnder the supervision and direction of the Morrisania D&TC WIC Dietitian Level II , III or IV, the Dietitian I/ WIC Nutritionist is responsible for the providing nutrition education and counseling to the WIC participants, as well as perform certification and recertification of all qualified participants. This position is a WIC Contract Deliverable.AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES The WIC Dietitian Level I / WIC Qualified Nutritionist is responsible for all nutrition-related functions for WIC participants and applicants. This includes WIC nutrition and breastfeeding services and community outreach, when required. As a WIC High Risk Qualified Nutritionist, this position includes everything associated with WIC High Risk counseling, plans and documentation.SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1.Certification of WIC participants in accordance with USDA regulations, NYSDOH and Morrisania WIC policies.2.Presentation of orientation and/or classes for all participants certified onto the WIC Program.3.Assessment of nutritional status and nutritional and health needs of participant. Record-keeping associatedwith nutrition education in NYWIC.4.Provision of individual and group nutrition education/facilitated group discussion to WIC participants and/or to their families, as specified by the Federal Regulations, NYS Nutrition Plan and Morrisania WIC policies.5.Documentation of nutrition education contacts provided for all WIC participants, including a nutrition care plan for all high-risk participants in NYWIC.6.Development and production of nutrition education materials, in concert with nutrition staff.7.Evaluation, screening and review of other appropriate nutrition education materials.8.Prescription of food packages, including specialty formulas, according to the nutritional needs of the participant, in accordance with federal regulations, state and Morrisania WIC policy.9.Breastfeeding: Provide promotion, assessment, and assistance to breastfeeding mothers to foster successful lactation. Document as required in NYWIC and all other appropriate records. Refer to Breastfeeding Coordinator, Interns, Peer Counselors and WIC Director, as necessary. Follow-up on breastpump issuance, as necessary. Work with Breastfeeding Team to develop appropriate materials and activities to supportbreastfeeding.10.Identification of nutrition and nutrition education needs of the participants.11.Implementation of quarterly nutrition time study as mandated by NYSDOH.pletion of alternate certification paper certifications and assignment in NYWIC within 5 days of certification or when NYWIC is operational.13.Participation and attendance at nutrition seminars, and meetings with peers in the field and reading currentliterature, in order to keep abreast of new developments in the field of nutrition to aid in the effectiveness withparticipants and staff members and to maintain appropriate credentials and WIC Program mandated continuingeducation. Completion of Nutrition and other WIC modules as required by NYSDOH WIC Program.14.Perform anthropometric and hematologic assessments and measurements of WIC participants and applicants in accordance with NYSDOH WIC Program standards. If trained, perform finger stick utilizing HemoCue or Pronto equipment, in accordance with CLIA regulations and using Universal Precautions.15.Issuance/assign WIC Food benefits and Farmers Market checks in accordance with NYSDOH and MorrisaniaWIC policies.16.Conduct CookShop, FITWIC, Food Tastings, Milk Challenges and Recipe Demonstrations as necessary to complement the nutrition education routinely performed by the WIC Program.17.Participation in outreach activities and special events, including annual Healthy Lifestyles Fair.18.Participation and attendance in scheduled WIC meetingspliance with infection control and workplace safety NYCHHC policies; HIPAA regulations and WIC Program confidentiality policies; completion of Annual In-Service training and exam.municate effectively with participants, visits and colleagues.21.Ability to conduct WIC nutrition counseling and assessment using Tele-WIC modalities and platforms.22.Conduct all duties through an equity lens, utilizing the Diversity, Equity and Inclusive approach for all participants, families, community members, colleagues and co-workers.23.Conduct all activities within the ICARE values - Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.24.All duties associated with the nutrition component of the Program, including additional assignments as deemed necessary by the Program Director.25.This is a bi-lingual Spanish/ English position.Minimum QualificationsQualification Requirements:For appointment to Assignment Level IBaccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in Dietetics or Foods and Nutrition in a program approved by the American Dietetic Association (ADA); or,Registration or eligibility for registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian or New York State Certification as a Dietitian-Nutritionist.Department PreferencesQUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:CERTIFICATION(S)/LICENSE(S):EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:1.A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college, with a major in Dietetics or Foods and Nutrition in a program approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND);KNOWLEDGEABLE IN: Anthropometry measurement and assessment skills, Hematology measurement and assessment skills Communication skills, Knowledge of nutrition through the life cycle, Breastfeeding promotion and management skills, Motivational Interviewing, Participant Centered Nutrition Services, Computer skills, must be fluent in Spanish.
