Role and ResponsibilitiesUnder direction of the Nurse supervisor, the Public Health Nurse reviews performance for completeness and conformance to instructions and regulation; performs professional public health nursing duties in East Orange and contracting towns; does other related clinical work as required.Responds to health questions by individuals and/or families during home visits, in clinics or schools or, while giving health demonstrations and lectures to community groups to educate the public on preventive health measures.Interviews patients and/or families to evaluate health needs or environmental hazards in the homes.Assists families with referrals to agencies and/or physicians and referral sources as needed to ensure medical follow-up and care is being properly administer.Measure patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse height, and weight to record the patients' vital signs and growth process.Implements actions to curtail the spread of communicable diseases by instructing high-risk individuals or groups in the proper control measures.Qualifications and Education RequirementsOne (1) year of experience of public health nursing. Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing or Public Health. Applicants must possess a current and valid registration as a Professional Nurse in the State of New Jersey and a valid New Jersey state Driver's License.Preferred Skills:Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, side effects, and possible complications.Knowledge of adult and children immunizations.Knowledge of computer and medical information technology.Ability to: interact with clients in a caring and professional manner; assess client healthcare needs and referral, as necessary; evaluate, assess, intervene and develop a plan of care.
