Position: ControllerIndustry: ManufacturingLocation: PennsylvaniaPosition and ResponsibilitiesA private equity-backed manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee daily financial operations. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and risk management. The ideal candidate will have expertise in cost accounting, financial reporting, and analysis. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent communication abilities are essential.The company is focused on growth through both organic means and acquisitions within the industry, so experience with mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is a plus. Candidates with a background in manufacturing and experience in process improvements will be highly valued. This position reports directly to the CEO.Experience with mid-sized or larger manufacturing companies is preferred. The Controller will manage financial and reporting requirements while also overseeing key aspects of production operations, including purchasing and scheduling, to ensure smooth business processes. The role involves developing new tools, systems, and templates to enhance overall performance.A key early responsibility for the Controller will be evaluating and implementing new ERP, general ledger, and CRM systems. A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, along with several years of experience in a manufacturing environment, is required. As a key leader, the Controller must foster a culture of engagement and innovation.Financial Reporting ResponsibilitiesDevelop internal control guidelines, policies, and procedures for budget accounting, cash and credit management, and other financial activities.Establish a standard costing system with monthly variance reporting.Coordinate and direct budgeting, procurement, investment activities, and financial planning.Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and professional standards.Establish and maintain financial controls, prepare, and present financial reports and risk analysis.Create budgets and forecasts, and manage the company's general ledger.Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.Provide support to management, particularly in commercial and financial matters.Create reports to help senior leadership understand the company's financials.Close month-end financial statements, including reviewing and preparing general ledger entries.Manage all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger management, internal controls, external audits, account reconciliations, and cash management.Prepare financial reports for key stakeholders, including the board of directors and lenders.Analyze balance sheet and P&L accounts and review reconciliations.Assist with pricing changes and margin determinations for products and services.Provide detailed fluctuation analysis on P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.Utilize financial analysis tools to evaluate company objectives and provide forecasting/budgeting support.Serve as a reliable source of analytical and financial thought leadership.Assist in researching and implementing new ERP and CRM systems.Manage key external relationships, including with financial institutions and vendors.Production ResponsibilitiesOversee the purchasing function.Assist the production team to ensure delivery of high-quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations.Review processes to ensure appropriate production rates and continued improvement.Collaborate with customer service and sales departments to enhance service and margins.Identify and address bottlenecks or delays in production; ensure necessary resources are available to maintain continuous operations.Ensure production machinery complies with professional and safety standards.Manage the creation of maintenance schedules to avoid downtime or delays.Other ResponsibilitiesSupport HR and operational administration.Actively manage the sales tax collection and remittance process.Support management and ownership in evaluating and monitoring M&A opportunities and participating in post-merger integration.Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly KPI reports.Prepare materials for board meetings.Maintain an internal operating model.Background RequirementsBachelor's degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.CPA preferred.Strong financial acumen, GAAP expertise, and proficiency in accounting procedures and best practices.Experience with accounting software and ERP system implementation preferred.Proven ability to create and improve processes to enhance work quality and flow.Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional team, building credibility with senior management.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Critical thinker capable of managing tight deadlines and multiple priorities.Well-organized with experience in an accounting function within a manufacturing setting.Understanding of applicable laws, financial data analysis, and reporting.Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP Business One, or Zoho Books is a plus.Benefits401(k) with employer matching.Dental, health, vision, and life insurance.Short-term and long-term disability insurance.Paid time off and holiday time off commensurate with experience.Location: On-Site/Hybrid in Pennsylvania.
