We work on a range of strategy, design and identity projects for local, national and global clients like Nike, The New York Times, Restaurant Noma, The Museum of Modern Art, MasterClass, Netflix, Knoll and Japan's biggest publisher, Kodansha.About The RoleGretel is looking for an experienced Senior Strategist to join our Brooklyn team.As Senior Strategist, you will report to our Head of Strategy. In this role, you'll be acting as the lead strategist across 1-2 medium sized strategic projects, developing compelling creative and strategic platforms at the heart of brands, companies and products. The ideal candidate is both a strategist who wants to ground brands in meaningful ideas and a writer who can bring those ideas to life through language.Day-to-day you will:Help clients define the core building blocks of their brand including purpose, positioning, and personality to create meaningful brands and platforms.Synthesize quickly and deliver ideas and concepts in a clear, client-focused wayBuild strong and intuitive brand architecture models and frameworks that align with internal and external goals.Support the development of verbal systems and messaging platforms, building on strategy and synching with visual brand expression Craft brand manifestos as a component of brand definitions to bring emotion to strategy.Incorporate research and analytics to bring rigor to conceptually driven, creative ideas.Define key audiences and understand what drives them.Help design and execute primary and secondary research that helps the team understand a client's market, competitors, trends, character, reputation, etc.Use logic and magic to distill unstructured information into valuable insights and creative platforms for designers to springboard from.Support the Head of Strategy co-leading client projects and internal initiatives.Contribute to the development, management, and mentorship of junior team members.You are the ideal candidate if you are/have:Experience in brand architecture, portfolio strategy, and structuring a compelling narrative for strategy and creativeAble to internalize and execute on strategic frameworks, outputs, processes Confident collaborating with creative counterparts on project workflows Able to write various components of language, voice attributes and notional copyAble to bridge across the disciplines of strategic and creative thinkingExperience articulating conceptual territories through writing and setupCan imagine new ways of showing strategic outputs that align with Gretel's overall style Experience executing and pulling relevant insights from primary research Highly aware and interested in broad cultural trends and forecastingAn analytic mindset with strong business acumenA creative flare with a love of designExperience in both digital platform and product development are a plusFigma skills and a curiosity to employ AI tools are a plus Qualifications:5-7 years of experience in brand and design strategy role, preferably within an established agency or studioBachelor's degree, preferably related to marketing, business, communications, or writing/journalismStrong creative and strategic writing skills, communication, and presentation skillsExperience conducting primary and secondary research, with an emphasis on qualitative methodologiesAble to work from our studio in Brooklyn 3 days per weekBenefits and Perks:Hybrid model (3 fixed days in office, 2 remote) 20 of your typically fixed days can be changed to remote each year, prorated based on start401k plan with a discretionary employer matchHealth care coverage: for basic Aetna medical, dental, and vision plans, Gretel covers premiums with no additional cost to staff20 days PTO, prorated based on start (vacation/personal, sick days don't count)5 Refresh days (can be used for mental & emotional wellbeing)23 office bank/holiday closings (includes 2 week December holiday)20 Remote August days (much of the studio works off-site, even internationally)Weekly Breakfast On-site and off-site creative workshops, guest speakers, team outings and other opportunities to connectPaid parental leaveOpt-in participation to our external mentorship initiatives via our involvement with Diversity in Design and our ongoing partnership with New Design High SchoolRelocation stipend on a per-case basisGretel is committed to cultivating a culture of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy (including childbirth, lactation and related medical conditions), national origin, age, physical and mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information (including characteristics and testing), military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
