Here is the link.purpose of this position is to perform general duty police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: High school diploma or equivalent;No experience required; andOr equivalent education and/or experience.Completion of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy within the first year of employment.Achievement and maintenance of firearms proficiency according to departmental standards.Possession of a valid South Carolina driver's license.Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment, Red Cross or other accredited certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:· Patrols designated areas to observe and check on homes, businesses and the general welfare.· Responds to specific incidents relayed by the dispatcher and conducts preliminary investigations when needed.· Prevents the commission of unlawful acts; apprehends criminals or other persons menacing the general public.· Enforces traffic and safety regulations for pedestrians and motor vehicles.· Serves warrants, subpoenas and other writs.· Ensures businesses on the island are secure at night.· Testifies in court as required.· Contacts victims and keeps them updated on the status of their case.· Prepares detailed written incident and other reports.· Administers first aid to injured persons as needed.· Accompanies and maintains custody of individuals being taken to jail, court or detention centers.· Conducts searches and arrests when probable cause has been established in keeping with the laws of arrest, search and seizure.· Promotes good community relations.· Assists at special events as needed.· Maintains individual equipment in proper working order.· Refers to policy and procedures manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / ordinances / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.Performs other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: · Knowledge of state, local and federal laws pertaining to the general exercise of law enforcement duties.· Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of general police work.· Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.· Knowledge of City geography.· Knowledge of basic first aid.· Knowledge of the use and care of firearms.· Knowledge of equipment typical of law enforcement work.· Skill in the operation of special equipment such as radar and radio devices and breathalyzer.· Ability to maintain physical conditioning to be able to perform all duties of police officer on Isle of Palms according to departmental standards.· Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing.· Ability to work well with colleagues and the general public.· Ability to understand and follow orders.· Ability to perform regular duties on a self-initiating basis with no direct supervision.BENEFITS100% Paid Health,Dental,Vision, Basic Life, Basic LTD for employee (value of $8,232 annually)12 Paid Holidays2-weeks' vacation in the first yearTwelve sick days per yearState Pension PlanWellness IncentivesEOE
