Coriell Institute for Medical Research is in search for a Communications Specialist to join the External Affairs Team!The ideal candidate for the Communications Specialist role would be a talented individual who would individually contribute and be a vital member of our External Relations team. Reporting to the Director of External Affairs, this position is responsible for providing support to the leadership and executing Coriell's internal and external communications, media relations and community and constituent engagement plans and activities. The Communications Specialist will possess a well-versed background in strategic thinking and proven best practices in communications and public relations. We are seeking candidates with 5-7 years of experience, preferably in life sciences or healthcare communications. Essential Duties and Accountabilities:Under the direction of the Director, External Affairs, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for, or assist with, Coriell's public outreach initiatives and internal relations, including: Managing public and media relations, crafting internal and external communications, including drafting of press releases, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, publications, institute newsletters,Supporting the Institute's communication needs in relation to fundraising, philanthropy, marketing, etc.Work collaboratively with IT on the upkeep and maintenance of Coriell's internet websites, Familiarity with HTML Coding is highly preferred, Collaborate with different internal department to craft and manage the Institute's social media presence - supporting content on platforms like LinkedIn and X. Work with the Director, External Affairs and Executive Team to craft and implement social media strategies and campaigns, Ability to use a DSLR Camera is highly preferred, position will be expected to take pictures at events, official visits, conferences, etc. Community and constituent engagement, managing important external relationships for the Institute, Ability to use Graphic Design applications, like Adobe or Photoshop, is required,Working with Coriell's Scientific Writer to convey scientific topics to both subject matter experts and laypersons, Supporting special projects and other duties related to External Affairs, Philanthropy, and/or the Institute as a whole.Qualifications:Education:A bachelor's degree in the Field of Communications, Public Relations, or English is strongly preferred. Experience:5-7 years of experience in communications and/or public relations, preferably in the life sciences or healthcare. Competencies Needed:Strong writing skills, Interpersonal, Small Group, and Mass Communication Skills, both written and verbal, Strategic thinking in the fields of communication, business, etc., Social media acumen (LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, etc.)Able to work independently, and multiple tasks at once, project manager skills, Team player, Collaborative, ability to work within cross-functional teams.Coriell & RecruitmentFounded in 1953, the Coriell Institute for Medical Research is a nonprofit research institute dedicated to improving human health through biomedical research.
