Community Organizer (F/T In-Person, $55,200, salary exempt)coLAB Arts (), engaging artists, social advocates, and communities to create transformative new work, is seeking out a Community Organizer for a rapidly growing arts organization in New Brunswick, NJ, located in the traditional territory of the Leni-Lenape called "Lenapehoking." coLAB Arts produces high-quality work across creative disciplines and in response to local social issues, advocacy organizations, and communities of the greater New Brunswick, NJ area.coLAB Arts' vision is to create more livable, sustainable, and exciting environments through art. coLAB Arts is seeking a full-time on-site bilingual English/Spanish (written and verbal) Community Organizer to support coLAB Arts' producing team across all programming including artistic production, civic engagement, and education. The ideal candidate has a passion for community engagement and organizing, and strong experience managing a large field team. Current priority projects include:New Brunswick Documenters New Jersey Im/migrant Labor MonumentNew Brunswick Documenters Responsibilities include:Train and manage community reporters ("Documenters"), both in person and virtuallyManage a virtual team of transcribers, translators, and researchersFact-check and approve community reporting on local government meetingsCurate community reports in a high-quality weekly newsletterParticipates in all City Bureau trainings and meetings related to the Documenters ProgramManage the Documenters platformStrong and prompt electronic and in person communication related to the needs of the Documenters program and coLAB ArtsDocumentation of all work activityDocumentation of all measurable impacts related to the programBuild and promptly deliver all needed content for internal and external communicationsNew Jersey Im/migrant Labor Monument responsibilities include:Organize community facilitator trainings with region partners in North, Central, and South JerseyWork with regional partners to organize community facilitations with artists, researchers, and advocacy partnersSupport large regional event convenings and celebrations with local community membersNote on COVID-19: coLAB Arts operates and programs in accordance with State of New Jersey guidelines.Physical Expectations: Daytime work hours; evening and weekend hours as needed Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:B.A. degree or equivalent, with at least 3-5 years of professional organizing experienceBilingual English and Spanish, both written and verbalStrong communication skills, both written and verbalStrong computer skills and experience with G-SuiteDetail-oriented with organization, project management, and time management skillsAbility to perform a substantial number of tasks independentlyAbility to work cooperatively, foster team spirit, and maintain a positive demeanorAbility to solve problems independently and negotiate solutions with challenging partnersAbility to clearly communicate needs and expectations to staff supervisorCommitment to the vision and values of coLAB Arts and the Documenters NetworkCompensation: $55,200 per yearcoLAB Arts does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, disability, national origin, religion, creed, age, marital status, sexual orientation, citizenship or authorized alien status, or veteran status.Complete applications should include a cover letter, resume, and three references. The Documenters Network makes local government more accountable and transparent by training and paying community members to attend these meetings and publish the results via news products, social media, and the custom Documenters web app, . The Documenters Network was founded by City Bureau in Chicago and has since expanded to Cleveland, Detroit, and diverse communities around the country. coLAB Arts is in the process of launching a New Brunswick, NJ Documenters program in collaboration with this collective effort.
