New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit faith-based federation of faith communities, human services providers and charitable organizations who work in partnership to provide disaster readiness, response, and recovery services to New York City. NYDIS' affiliate, the NYC Emergency Shelter Network (ESN) coordinates and builds the capacity of congregation-based street homeless shelter services and advocacy as well as Asylum-Seeker shelters and service centers along with homeless mitigation initiatives. NYDIS currently has a $40M annual operating budget and up to 75 employees. Reporting to the Executive Director & CEO, the Human Resources (HR) Manager will play a pivotal role in the development and oversight of all HR functions for NYDIS and our affiliate, the Emergency Shelter Network. The position requires a strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset to create and/or manage existing HR processes while fostering a positive work culture and aligning HR strategies with NYDIS' pending strategic planning process. The HR Manager must enjoy working within a small, multi-faith and DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) centric environment that is mission- and results-driven with a focus on community. The ideal candidate will have experience and expert knowledge of current best practices in HR policies and procedures, excellent communication skills, written and verbal, ability to work independently and the ability to handle confidential matters with discretion. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: HR Administration & SupportAssist in the execution of existing or development and implementation of new HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices.Stay informed of changes in labor laws and ensure organizational compliance.Collaborate with senior leadership to align HR policies with organizational objectives. Participate in the development and execution of NYDIS pending 2024 strategic planning process.Provide administrative support for HR functions, including maintaining employee records, managing documentation, and handling routine human resources paperwork. (NYDIS currently uses Bamboo).Recruitment & Talent Acquisition Assist in the full recruitment lifecycle, from the development of the job descriptions, posting of job openings, screening of resumes, and coordination of interviews and background checks/references checks.Work closely with directors and managers to identify staffing needs and develop effective recruitment strategies to target the diverse populations served by NYDIS and ESN administrative staff and programs. Onboarding & OffboardingCoordinate and facilitate the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring a smooth integration into the organization - including conducting all new staff orientations and developing training standards.Manage the offboarding process, conduct exit interviews and process necessary paperwork.Performance ManagementOversee the performance management process, including goal setting, feedback, and performance evaluations.Provide guidance and support to directors and managers on performance-related matters.Implement an HRIS system to maintain employee records.Employee RelationsAddress employee relations matters, providing guidance and support to employees and supervisors.Contribute to fostering a fun, positive and grateful workplace culture with employee engagement initiatives.Compensation & BenefitsAdminister with CFO employee benefit programs and ensure accurate record-keeping.Respond to employee inquiries and provide information and support to employees regarding benefits.Conduct periodic reviews of salary structures, ensuring competitiveness in the marketplace.Qualifications:Requires a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field3-5 years of nonprofit HR experienceSHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification is preferred.Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulationsAn innate commitment to DEIB and a practitioner of religious literacy and competency.Tech savvy - with expert proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite - especially Excel and OutlookDemonstrated ability to work with diverse religious and secular stakeholders. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
