Description SAIC is seeking a strong Cloud FinOps professional with experience in both Finance, cloud data, and technical knowledge. A combination of the ability to understand numbers, analyze data and communicate effectively is critical for success in this role. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in AWS and Azure FinOps (cloud financial management) and will play a key role in helping us to drive financial stewardship across our cloud platforms. This position may be remote anywhere in the US for the right candidate. You will be responsible for understanding the data, combining various data, and using them to gain financial and operational insights and then communicating the insights to various parts of the business. This requires comfort in deep diving into cost drivers and analyzing variance root causes. You will collaborate with our cloud operations and technology product stakeholders to understand cloud consumption, drive continuous cost efficiencies, and align cloud spending with business objectives. This will include monitoring cloud usage and spending data to identify cost -saving opportunities.This is a phenomenal opportunity for an individual contributor who is curious about things and passionate about making impact to the bottom line!Responsibilities:Cost Management and Optimization:Monitor, analyze, and report cloud costs across AWS and AzureProvide insights into cloud spend and identify areas for cost savingsWork with engineering and product teams to optimize resource utilizationImplement strategies to drive down cloud spending, including rightsizing, reservation management, and operational efficiency improvementsForecasting and Budgeting:Collaborate with finance, engineering, and product teams to develop and manage cloud budgetsBuild accurate cost forecasts and spend analysis reports to guide strategic decision-makingDevelop, establish, report, and track metrics and KPIs to assess FinOps performance and identify optimization opportunitiesCost Allocation and ChargebacksShowback:Design and implement a cost allocation model that aligns with our organizational structure and accounting requirementsEnsure accurate and efficient chargeback processes to promote transparency and accountability for cloud consumptionDevelop, refine, and report showback analysis to assist cloud finance, engineering, and product teams in understanding their cloud spendEnable teams through collaboration to understand and manage their cloud costs effectivelyGovernance and Compliance:Develop and enforce cloud financial governance policies and best practicesEnsure compliance with relevant industry standards and financial regulationsManage tagging policies and ensure proper tagging to support accurate cost attributionTooling and Automation:Evaluate, implement, and manage FinOps tooling for cost tracking, budget alerts, and spend analyticsAutomate workflows to streamline cost management processes, including anomaly detection and billing adjustmentsWork with engineering teams to automate operational cost optimization practicesEducation and Evangelism:Act as a FinOps evangelist within the organization, educating teams on best practices for cloud cost managementDevelop documentation, training materials, and presentations to drive a FinOps cultureServe as a trusted advisor for engineering, product, finance, and procurement teams on all matters related to FinOps (cloud financial management)If you're a curious strategic thinker with a passion for cloud cost management and FinOps practices, we'd love to hear from you!Qualifications Qualifications:Bachelors and 14+ years of experience, or a masters and 12+ years of experience, or a PhD or JD and 9+ years of experience3+ years of experience in a FinOps, Cloud Cost Management, or Cloud Engineering role with a focus on financial optimization and implementation of Cloud FinOps principles and practicesThis position requires US CitizenshipCloud Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with both AWS and Azure cloud platforms, including a deep understanding of cost management, budgeting, and reporting features within these ecosystemsTechnical Skills: Proficiency in using cloud management tools like AWS Cost Explorer, AWS QuickSight, Azure Cost Management, and third-party tools is a plus; ability to learn new technologies and concepts; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience with data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel) is a critical; familiarity with cloud native solutions like AWS Athena or scripting languages like Phyton and automation frameworks to streamline FinOps tasks is helpful; ability to think critically, problem solve creatively, and perform root cause analysisFinancial Acumen: Solid understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and forecasting within a cloud environment; analytical and detailed oriented with a strong business senseCollaboration Skills: Ability to work cross-functionally with finance, procurement, engineering, and operations teams to drive cost accountability;
