Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPerforms a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation. Participates in performance improvement, research, and educational activities.Job Responsibility Practices to top of license in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative (outpatient) phases of care Meets patient clinical and psychosocial needs and offers comprehensive treatment plans for patients with a range of surgical oncology conditions, including but not limited to: Breast cancer, Skin cancer including melanoma, squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas, soft tissue sarcomas, thyroid and headneck cancers and GI cancers Takes initial patient history and performs physical examinations in the outpatient office setting Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients Intermittently supports surgical cases in a 1st or 2nd assist capacity; graduated level of independence dependent upon surgical skills and experience Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions including prescribing pain medication when appropriate, wound care and follow up Assistsperforms minor office procedures when requested by attending surgeon including but not limited to: Suturesstaple removal, drain removal, wound care, abscess drainage, needle aspirationsbiopsies Assists with office surgical procedures Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests Interprets laboratory and test results and relays follow uptreatment plan to patients Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, andor other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care Supports the development and implementation of protocols and procedures that enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency Performs related duties as required. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions No night or weekend call Job Qualification 2 years of surgical experience in 1st or 2nd assist capacity preferred, but will consider recent graduate. Surgeon will train Spanish-speaking preferred, not required Skilled at navigating and making sense of complex information to make informed decisions Expertise in planning and prioritizing tasks to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and timely completion Skilled in managing care for diverse patient populations simultaneously Bachelor's Degree, required. Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs ARC-PA) program, required Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the New York State Department of Education, required Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required Current BLS certification, required*Additional Salary Detail The salary range andor hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.When determining a team member's base salary andor rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).
