Please see for key information.CLASS SUMMARY:The Public Works Director is responsible for planning, administering, and directing activities related to the City's Public Works Department, including activities related to street, building, vehicle, equipment, water and sewer systems, parks, solid waste, engineering and forest maintenance andor construction. Responsibilities may include supervising staff; formulating, developing, evaluating, revising, implementing, andor overseeing long- and short-range plans, strategies, resource allocation, policies, procedures, programs, projects, goals, and objectives; overseeing departmental budget preparation; providing public-works related assistance and education; and performing related duties.Scope of Impact: The duties and responsibilities of this job are performed with latitude for independent judgement in accordance with Department and City policies, Federal, State and Local regulations and are based on detailed knowledge of department operations. Work is subject to periodic review by the supervisor, who provides input on approval of recommendations and discusses assignments, priorities and work. Essential Duties CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:This job description is intended to represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.Plans, directs, and administers activities related to the City's Public Works department, related, but not limited, to street, building, vehicle, equipment, water and sewer system, parks, solid waste, engineering and forest maintenance andor construction; work may involve formulating, developing, evaluating, revising, implementing, andor overseeing long- and short-range plans, strategies, resource allocation, policies, procedures, programs, projects, goals, and objectives, and presenting them to the City Manager andor City Council Supervises technical, professional, and divisional management staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; coordinating and conducting staff training; and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures Oversees and participates in the development of department budgets; work may involve reviewing and approving forecasted costs; monitoring and approving expenditures; performing cost control activities; implementing budgetary adjustments; preparing annual budget requests; and ensuring effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time. Coordinates with other departments, personnel, the City Manager, Board members, and other internalexternal agencies and stakeholders; serves as a liaison; and participates in a variety of meetings and conferences, to oversee and facilitate department operations, processes, and programs; provide administrative and public works-related assistance and information; recommend solutions to public-works related issues; and represent the departmentOversees the preparation of, or prepares, maintains, reviews, andor approves financial, statistical, engineering, andor other reports, plans, records, and other documentation; work may involve researching, compiling, and analyzing financial, engineering, and other data; and making recommendations related to department strategies, goals, objectives, and other operations and processes, using subject matter expertise Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree; 7 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 2 years of supervisory experience.
