Salary : $87,622.50 - $109,609.97 AnnuallyLocation : City of Pasadena, CAJob Type: Full -TimeJob Number: 24-178Department: Planning & Community DevelopmentDivision: PlanningOpening Date: 12202024Closing Date: ContinuousThe City of Pasadena is looking for a Senior Building Inspector (Combination) to act as a lead to perform inspections of complex construction projects for multifamily residential, mixed use occupancies, commercial buildings, industrial complexes, single-family residential and other structures to ensure compliance with state and local building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, housing and zoning codes and ordinances. IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate has experience in conducting building inspections for a governmental jurisdiction, inspecting architectural, structural, and Accessibility compliance for commercial and residential occupancies; has the ability to work in a lead capacity, is detail-oriented, dependable, and has excellent decision-making ability. The candidate should be thoroughly familiar with the California Building Code Standards (Title-24 of the California Code of Regulations and Cal Green standards) and construction methods for a variety of construction types. Ability to read, interpret, and apply general and detailed information on design and construction plans, calculations, and reports. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and safety hazards related to conducting building inspections. Experience with the use of electronic devices including handheld devices and software for permitting and plan reading is highly desirable. Apply today! Essential Functions The major responsibilities of this position are listed below. For more detailed information, please review the Performs inspections of complex construction projects; Conducts field inspections for compliance of electrical circuits, electrical systems, mechanical and plumbing installations and systems, and verify that construction, alterations, or repairs are being performed according to codes, standards, regulations and ordinances; Verifies tests and analysis of related equipment and systems; Performs investigations of violations and prepares reports of findings. Performs non-engineering plan reviews and field inspections of complex commercial buildings and structures to verify that construction, alterations, or repairs are being performed according to approved building plans and specifications; Verifies compliance with building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy, CAL Green, housing and zoning codes, relevant ordinances and spects and approves work at each of the required stages of completion and orders corrective action if necessary; Makes final inspections; Prepares reports of inspections and work completed. Advises and interprets codes and requirements for property owners, architects, engineers and contractors; Coordinates construction progress with other City functions and outside agencies; Maintains current knowledge of technical and regulatory changes.Prepares letters and reports and maintains records of inspection activities. Prepares data required for code compliance through court action and makes court appearances. Qualification Guidelines EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEEquivalent to the completion of twelfth grade or GED required. I.C.C certificate in any commercial trade, required within one year of employment. Four years of experience with a public agency as an inspector performing combination residential commercial inspections; or, six years of full-time experience in commercial construction.Graduation from a recognized college with an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in Building Construction Inspection, or any combination of education equivalent to completion of 30 college semester units in engineering, architecture, or building inspection is highly desirable but not required. Special Requirements Must have or obtain a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Must provide an operable motor vehicle for the purpose of performing field inspections and other related duties.
