POSITION TITLE:Benefits Access Administrative Assistant LOCATION:HFNYC's Bronx Offices and HFNYC's community partner agencies across NYC DESCRIPTION: Hunger Free New York City (HFNYC), a division of Hunger Free America, strives to build a nonpartisan, grassroots movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end hunger in New York City and ensure that all New Yorkers have sufficient access to nutritious food. A significant aspect of HFNYC's work is connecting eligible residents to Federal, State, and City Benefits Programs. HFNYC aims to expand its services through a Call Center designed to assist potentially eligible clients throughout the application process for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), WIC (Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children), Cash Assistance, and Fair Fares. By helping individuals and families access these benefits, the financial strain on households is reduced, allowing them to allocate income toward other pressing needs. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide front desk support at HFNYC's South Bronx Neighborhood Field office, including but not limited to greeting clients, completing initial intake forms, and providing an overview of HFNYC services. Conduct SNAP, WIC, CA and Fair Fares eligibility pre-screening and application assistance for SNAP and Fair Fares. Participate in canvassing and outreach events to promote HFNYC's services at our South Bronx Neighborhood Field Office. Work collaboratively with the Bronx Community Coordinator to best support our Benefits Access staff by developing outreach materials and updating our local resource catalogue and outreach inventory. Work collaboratively on outreach and referral strategies with the WIC Program Manager and the Benefits Access Program Manager to meet monthly targets. Perform administrative duties such as data entry. Provide direct services as needed, both remotely and in person. Build strong connections with local community-based organizations, including food pantries, soup kitchens, medical facilities, faith-based groups, and elected officials' offices across the city. QUALIFICATIONS & QUALITIES:A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred, although people with significant and relevant work experience will be considered. Knowledge in anti-hungernutrition; benefits screening (esp. for SNAP, CA, WIC and FF) and experience working in low-income communities. Experience (ideally at least 2 years) in direct services. High-energy self-starter with strong communications, problem solving, organizing, inter-personal, and team building skills. Commitment to fighting poverty and hunger. Some flexibility with schedule required, including some nights and weekends. Working knowledge of databases (such as Airtable and Salesforce) is a plus. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite.$24.70 - $24.70 an hourThis is a full-time, 35-hour per week position.
