Job OverviewSummaryObjectiveThe General Manager assumes responsibility, and is accountable, for customer retention and the profitability of each department in the dealership on behalf of the company. The General Manager fulfills this responsibility through the use of sound business management practices. The General Manager plans, motivates, and coordinates the activities of the management team.Essential FunctionsDirects and monitors all dealership management or supervisory personnel functions and completes formal performance evaluations of all department managers at regularly scheduled intervalsPlans dealership operations for the year and submits to the area and corporate management for approvalMeets with the ControllerOffice Manager weekly to review departmental forecasts with the annual forecastMeets with managers individually to develop goals and objectives and to review performanceMonitors the daily operating control (DOC), recommending improved courses of action where necessaryCommunicates management policies and procedures to all employees and ensures that they are followedProvides the Corporation with accurate weekly reports on the financial condition of the dealershipEnsures that the monthly financial statement is complete, accurate, and submitted on time to the factoryCoordinates with the business office to ensure that records and analyses are maintained accuratelyDevelops and maintains a good working relationship with lending institutions and manufacturer personnelHolds regularly scheduled meetings to ensure that every department is operating efficiently and profitablyHires, trains, and motivates all dealership department managersProvides enthusiastic leadership to help shape employees' attitudes and build moraleReviews and approves compensation plans for all employeesDevelops merchandising strategies and assists in creating effective, cost-efficient advertising programsResolves any customer complaints that department managers are unable to rectifyInvestigates and resolves complaints from outside agenciesReviews all requests for training, approves those that are appropriate and consistent with the dealership's goals for professionaltechnical ability and advancement, and monitors their effectivenessWorks with the Dealer Principal to make proposals or changes to the operating plan and associated budgetsMakes sure that departments hold to budgeted revenue and expense objectivesAuthorizes all major departmental expendituresMaintain records, and controls, and requests reports from others within the dealership to assess dealership performanceCreates and facilitates the operating procedures and policies for the dealershipBalances the expectations and demands of customers, employees, suppliers, owners, and communityOffers coordination and focus for all areas of dealership operationHandles customer complaints sensibly while showing empathy and a constructive attitudeAddresses customers in a friendly and courteous mannerFollows all attendance and punctuality standards with adherence to timekeeping standards including recording time of arrival, departure, and all breaks for self and subordinatesFollows lawful directions from supervisorsUpholds the company's non-disclosure and confidentiality policies and agreementsAttends company meetings as requiredWorks evenings, weekends, and holidays as requiredMaintains a professional appearance and work area in accordance with company policyLeads and manages others in an exemplary and professional mannerOther DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this job. A.) or equivalent in business; and at least two years related experience andor training in a dealership sales environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years in a supervisory role in prior employment.Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor's degree (B.S or B.A) or equivalent; and two to four years related experience andor training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in retail automotive sales is highly desired.
