Katzenbach School for the DeafDescriptionUnder the direction of a Business Manager or other supervisor designee at the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf, has charge of the economic and professional management of all functions, services, facilities, and staff associated with storage, preparation, and service of all food.The supervisor will be responsible for the planning or supervision of the preparation of all menus and special diets; Provides instructions to employees in the food service unit, and supervises work performance; Organizes and assigns the work of the organizational unit and evaluates employee performance and conduct; Maintains and controls the proper sanitary and safety conditions and standards and inspects all areas where food is received; Prepares requisitions for all food supplies and food preparation equipment that is safeguarded, and inventoried; Assists in planning the vegetable, fruit, dairy, and meat production programs of the institution, taking into account available personnel, funds, equipment, and supplies; Ensures that meals are properly prepared and that the recommendations of the medical and dietetic staff are carried out; and performs other related work as required. RequirementsEducationGraduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Food Science, Food Service Management, Food Technology, Nutrition, or Restaurant Management.Note: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as indicated on a year-for-year basis.ExperienceTwo (2) years of experience as manager or supervisor in a food service operation which includes planning, preparation, and delivery systems.Preferred EducationExperienceExtensive knowledge in the areas of food safety and hygiene; Experience in the areas of menu planning, budgeting, cost-control and management of inventory.Special Note (MKSD)Note:Ability to communicate in American Sign Language preferred, or a commitment to learn American Sign Language in two (2) years.Note:All final candidates must be fingerprinted and bear the $78.38 cost of the criminal history check in order to qualify for employment at the Marie H.
