The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need.JOB SUMMARYPlan and conduct internal audits of Corps units located throughout the North and Central Illinois Division with an emphasis on assisting them achieve financial stability.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:PlanningAdministrationMaintain a thorough understanding of US GAAP Standards and The Salvation Army Finance Minute database and policies contained therein.Ensures that audits are scheduled and conducted in a timely manner and in compliance with established Salvation Army policy and government regulations.Provide training in the use of the Auto Audit system to Salvation Army staff as requested and act as the system liaison with THQ.Audit Consultation ServicesPerform audits of the Corps books and records focusing on financial performance and high-risk areas to assure compliance with established Salvation Army accounting and bookkeeping policies and procedures and to assess the financial condition and performance trends of the Corps.Identify internal control weaknesses or potential misuse of funds and assess any related financial exposure.Propose recommendations for corrective action in those cases where observations have been noted; including identifying opportunities to strengthen internal controls and improve operating efficiencies.Meet with Corps Officers to review and discuss audit observations and obtain management responses prior to leaving the field.Prepare audit reports for review and approval by local Corps Officers, Divisional Finance Director, and Divisional Finance Board in a timely manner and in compliance with Territorial Internal Audit guidelines.Provide requested assistance to Corps Officers or staff in developing resolutions or corrective action steps to resolve audit observations.Other DutiesAssist with special projects, training, or investigations (i.e. bank fraud), as assignedAssist in performing non-audit related financial analyses for Corps, as assignedOther duties, as assignedREPORTING RELATIONSHIPSThis position reports to the Divisional Director of Finance.This individual interacts with a wide range of contacts within and outside the Salvation Army. Thisincludes extensive interaction with Corps Officers, but may also include interaction with others conducting internal audits (close-out, quarters, etc.), program staff, program Directors, and program donorsfunders. In each of these interactions they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.PERFORMANCE MEASURMENTSThis individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.An evaluation of how effectively staff and professional contacts respond to the services being provided will also be completed on a periodic basis.A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESBachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field, and CIA preferred.Five plus years of experience in accounting, auditing, project management, and financial analysis, preferably in a not-for-profit PENTENCIESWilling to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.An interpersonal style that is service oriented as well as anticipates and responds to the needs of client departments.The ability to work independently and with a high level of autonomy.An ability to manage projects, priorities, and information in a constantly changing environment.A problem solver with ability to investigate and resolve problems.Ability to gather information, consult others, analyze options, and work in a team environment.A positive attitude that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.An ability to be flexible in light of changing job situationspriorities.Precision in managing detail, procedures, processes, and policies.A communication style that exhibits the principles and values of the Army as well as fosters team relationships and effectively communicates information.A working knowledge of the principles of accounting and auditing, especially in a not-for-profit setting.An understanding of data management, procedure development and flow of information.Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, using diplomacy, tact and good judgment.A "hands-on" knowledge of how to effectively work with diversity in the workplace.JOB LIMITATIONSThis individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.This individual will keep the Assistant Divisional Finance Director informed on all critical issues relating to hisher area of responsibility.This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWORK ENVIRONMENTThis position is required to travel to program locations and do light physical order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use a laptop and standard office equipment.The work environment for this position includes an office environment at DHQ as well as a number of Corps officesconference rooms, most with a low noise level and internet connections.Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
