JOB PURPOSE:Under the direction of the Medical Practice Manager, this position performs routine medical assistant functions as well as other required tasks. Under the supervision of the DTC Clinical staff Medical Assistant will perform venipuncture and finger blood, including drawing, capping, and labeling of blood specimens, as well as performing EKGs. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all routine medical assistant functions with consistency, according to policybest practice and expected service standards, while adhering to the participants' right for privacy and dignityConsistently and accurately takes and documents in the EMR participant's blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight.Draws blood and collects specimens according to Infection Control protocols, per MD order and consistent with all other established policiesbest practices.Processes specimens according to policy in preparation for pick-upIdentifies specimen correctlyMatches request form with specimenAppropriately centrifuges specimens if requiredRefrigerates specimen according to policyacceptable practiceAccurately and without delay orders laboratory tests as per physician's written ordersTracks test resultsInforms physician in writing of canceled lab testsSchedules Home Draw LabsObtains applicable reports on an ongoing basis via softwareConsistently tracks lab supply inventory and orders supplies as necessary while at all timed adhering to the approval processAt all times, fully stocks examination offices with all required medical supplies.Performs EKGs according to policybest practice and expected service standards while always adhering to participants' rights.Performs routine tests such as dipstick, blood finger stick glucose, and INR according to policybest practice and expected service standards while always adhering to participants' rights.At all times, provides services according to established safety procedures and infection control standards as per OSHA and CLHC Health Services policy and procedure and provides services with due regard for the health, safety, and well-being of the participant.At all times, maintains strict confidentiality of anyall participant information.Transports participants via wheelchair or accompanies ambulatory patients within the Pace Center to and from Diagnostic Treatment CenterTransfers and offers assistance during transferring of participants into and out of wheelchairs, toilets, beds, and other equipment (e.g., Hoyer lift)Assist participants requiring help with toileting and other ADL careAssist MD as requested, including translation and set up of equipment for examination and clean up when necessaryUnderstands that they are responsible for seeking feedback, instruction, andor additional education with regard to anyall aspects of their job responsibilities that are not clearTranslate as neededAssists with customer issues and grievances in a timely, accurate, and courteous manner. This includes working with the other departments to resolve the source of the problem(s).Assist with the coordination of follow-up visits and transportation for participants coming into and departing from the medical practiceProvides coverage for the Front Desk Area as neededPerforms other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.Weekly Hours: 40Schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PMQUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Medical technician training. Vision screening training.Experience: At least 1 year of venipuncture experience, preferably with the elderly population. Must be computer literate. This includes, but is not limited to:Standing - Duration of up to 6 hours a day.SittingStationary Positions - Sedentary position in duration of up to 6-8 hours a day for consecutive hoursperiods.LiftingPushPull - Up to 50 pounds of equipment, baggage, supplies, and ability to lift patients safely and using OSHA guidelines, etc.BendingSquatting - Must be able to safely bend or squat to care for patients, use medical supplies, etc.StairsStepsWalkingClimbing - Must be able to safely maneuver stairs, climb updown, and walk to access work areas Position requires the individual to be able to travel, and walk between siteslocations and work areas throughout the day.AgilityFine Motor Skills - Must demonstrate agility and fine motor skills to operate and activate equipment, devices, instruments, and tools (ie. typing, use of medical supplies, equipment, etc.)SightVisual Requirements - Must be able to visually assess patients, read orders typewrite documentation, etc. with accuracy.Audio Hearing and Motor Skills (Language) Requirements - Must be able to listen attentively and document information from patients, community members, providers, etc., and intake information through audio processing with accuracy.
