We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures, and develop their full potential.PROGRAM BACKGROUND:The Medical Department provides medical and nursing services to children that have been placed in MercyFirst's care. Children placed in foster care are more likely than not to be exposed to adverse childhood experiences that increase the likelihood of medical conditions. The Medical Department takes a strength-based, trauma-informed, child-centered approach to medical and nursing services.POSITION SUMMARY:Under the general supervision of the Executive Vice President of Integrated Health, the Medical Director is a board-certified physician who provides medical care to clients along with leadership and guidance to the Team through a review of procedures and protocols, team meetings, etc. The Medical Director is the lead in the agency medical leadership for evidence-based medicine. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:NYS Licensure as a Pediatric Physician.DEA License. Board Certified in pediatrics andor adolescent medicine. Must have and maintain a valid NYS Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.10+ years medical provider experience with children andor adolescents. Familiarity with issues specific to children in the child welfare system. 5+ years relevant administrative and supervisory experience preferred. Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency's Mission, core values, Sanctuary commitments and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). RESPONSIBILITIES:Review and approve policies and procedures for the division. Responsible for ensuring compliance with medical mandates of government and other funders.Ensure the provision of high-quality health care to children and families for Residential and Foster Home services. Provide clinical consultation and guidance to promote best practice. As a Member of the Agency Management Team, advises MercyFirst Administrative staff on the emerging and chronic health needs of the youth in foster care and makes recommendations for the modificationexpansion of services.Develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with the professional community, referral sources, government regulatory bodies and funding sources. Develop and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with other agency personnel including interdisciplinary teams Provide direct service to children and families including physical exams. Remain current with AAP and APA best practice, updates and psychopharmacology Prescribe medication as needed. Timely and accurate documentation of services in the MercyFirst EMR in accordance with government and MercyFirst guidelines, with particular attention to time sensitive billing requirements.Maintain a culturally competent, trauma informed and youth and family development focus.
