In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive medical care using sound medical knowledge and pertinent standards of care and assume responsibilities assigned by supervising physicians privileged as Medical Staff of NYC Health + Hospitals.The Neuro ICU manages patients with acute neurologic diseases such as ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, brain tumors, spinal cord injurycompression, seizuresstatus epilepticus, and neurosurgical post-operative patients. Along with the Neurointensivist, you will be the primary provider for patients in the Neuroscience intensive care unit. This position is comprised of three, 12.5 hour shifts per week including day, night, weekend, and holiday coverage.Job Responsibilities:1. Perform history and physical examinations and complete admission notes2. Formulate a diagnosis and develop a care plan with the patient and the treatment team3. Request and coordinate consultations4. Order and interpret diagnostic tests and pharmacologic interventions5. Educate and counsel patients, caregivers, and their families.6. Provide care of critically ill neurologic patients including management of emergency treatment of acute stroke, medical therapies for stroke prevention, mechanical ventilation, and increased intracranial pressure7. Manage pre- and post-operative Neurosurgical patients8. Participate in multidisciplinary collaboration with other subspecialties such as neurosurgery, stroke, epilepsy, palliative care, pulmonary critical care, etc.9. Manage patient disposition such as transfer to floor or other services, discharges to rehabnursing facilities, or discharge home10. Perform procedures including venipuncture, placement of intravenous lines, sutures, nasogastric tube, arterial, and central venous catheters, and administration of vasoactive and analgesic-sedative medications.11. Maintain active ACLSBLS certification and complete annual 8-hour stroke CME requirementsMinimum Qualifications1. Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant; or 2.
