Convent of the Sacred Heart is committed to building a community that is anti-racist, anti-bias, fair, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone and seeks candidates who connect to our Mission and Goals.Aquatics Coordinator & Swim TeacherBeginning January 13, 2025Position: Aquatics Coordinator & Swim TeacherReports to: Director of Aquatics & Swim Team ProgramsFLSA: Non-exempt, full timeSalary Range: $26hr - $29hr (Approximately $54K-$60K annually)Shift hours: Monday - Friday, 5:30 am - 1:30 pmOther: Full benefits package and generous vacationsick time policy offeredSummary:The Aquatics Coordinator and Swim Teacher position is a full-time, 12-month position that primarily works in the 55,000 ft2 Athletics and Wellness Center located at 406 East 91st Street as a part of the school's aquatics and physical education team. The work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 5:30 am - 1:30 pm.This person's primary responsibilities will include pool supervision as a lifeguard (approximately 15-18 hours per week) for various programs at the start of the day. They will also be responsible for teaching approximately 6-8 swim classes per week as part of the Pre-K through 8th-grade physical education program. The position also includes coordinating all Cardinal Swim School and private lesson programming and communicating with customers and staff. They will also take on administrative responsibilities related to the lifeguarding staff, among other duties (approximately 10-15 hours per week).Salary is competitive, and there is the potential to earn additional income on top of the base salary by way of coaching or teaching private swim instruction.Lifeguarding Responsibilities:Lifeguard daily swim group sessions (including physical education classes) as scheduled by the Aquatics Director for approximately 15-18 hours per week. This includes opening the pool Monday - Friday beginning at 5:30 am.Ensure the safety of the pool, remaining diligent and alert through all shifts.Respond to any incident or emergency in the pool area, including the locker rooms.Enforce the rules of the pool for every client and program.Keep the pool deck and surrounding areas clean and organized.During physical education classes, support the lead teacher in the most efficient way possible.Work with the security staff to effectively communicate with clients and respond to emergencies.Attend any supportive duties set forth by the Director of Aquatics.Assist in training of the lifeguard in-service meetings.Check lifeguard equipment regularly and alert the Director of Aquatics of any issues relating to safety.Teaching Responsibilities:Prepare and teach approximately 6-8 physical education swim classes per rotation for students in Pre-K through 8th grade at Convent of the Sacred Heart on a schedule set forth by the Head of Athletics & Wellness and the Director of Aquatics.Participate in all aspects of classroom management, curriculum design, and lesson preparation and instruction.Provide a warm and inviting classroom community that promotes a positive and productive learning environment where each student feels a sense of belonging.Differentiate instruction to support group and individual learning, and provide additional support to students in small groups and one-to-one as needed.Evaluate and assess student performance in physical education classes.Collaborate with the swim teaching team to ensure Sacred Heart swim curriculum and instruction is of the highest quality.Responsible for bus and locker room supervision as scheduled by the Head of Athletics & Wellness.Aquatics Coordinator Responsibilities:Handle all customer inquiries for Cardinal Swim School private lessons and group classes, assisting clients with MINDBODY point of sale for purchases refunds.Assist with schedulingassigning instructors for Cardinal Swim School classes and lessons, ensuring swimmers are placed correctly (swim level). This includes inputting and editing MINDBODY software with all instructor schedules.Help coordinate any and all coveragescall outs for Cardinal Swim School shifts.Review the pool schedule to ensure all aquatics programs, including masters swim, are accurately reflected. Communicate updates or schedule changes to the 406 administrative team, operations, and parents.Assign and communicate lifeguarding shifts to staff.Assist with coordination and communication of lifeguarding assignments, finding lifeguard coverage for any call-outs, tracking lifeguard hours and availability.Support the Director of Aquatics with the onboarding and training of new lifeguards.Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics & Swim Team Programs.Other:Act with leadership and professional behavior in dealings with student-athletes, parents, staff, and administrators.Provide support on the pool deck as required for CSH summer teract with multiple internal and external constituents on a daily basis for program development, management, and maintenance.Ensure good professional and collaborative relationships with colleagues.Maintain congruence between the school and the mission to all constituents as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart mit to personal growth through active participation in all department meetings, all-school faculty meetings, and professional development sessions.Other duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics andor Head of Athletics & Wellness that are needed to maintain andor oversee the success of Sacred Heart Aquatics.QualificationsSkills:Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experienceCurrent certification as a Lifeguard and Professional Rescuer, including up-to-date CPR, First Aid, and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) trainingHas completed a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course or similar qualification, or be willing to complete the certification prior to teachingExperience working with toddlers, elementary and middle school-aged children, teaching swim lessons, andor coaching swim teamsSolid understanding of child development, including cognitive, social, and emotional developmentProficiency in MINDBODY software and Google Suite (Google Forms, Sheets, Docs, etc.)Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skillsAbility to develop positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and colleaguesExtremely detail-oriented and organizedA record of integrity, reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethicStrong interpersonal and collaboration skillsThe physical ability to perform routine pool duties including lifting and moving pool lines, lifeguard stands, touch pads, and other pool equipment.A willingness to assist in additional responsibilities as set forth by the Aquatics Director andor the Division Head of Athletics & Wellness.It is the policy of Sacred Heart to provide equal employment opportunity to all employees and applicants.
