Reports to Director and Associate Director of Nursing.QualificationsA.S.N. degree from an accredited college or university or hospital training program as a Registered Nurse with a Connecticut license plus 5 years of RN experience including 2 years of supervisory experience in a hospital long term care facility or the equivalent.SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:Must be CPR certified and trained in venipuncture and intravenous therapy.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of geriatric nursing principles and geriatric pharmacology. Working knowledge of the CT Public Health Code. Skilled in the use of a personal computer and related software. Ability to plan, organize, and conduct meetings involving different levels of staff and different disciplines. Ability to problem solve, including arbitrating disagreements among staff, residents and families. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to organize and retrieve information concisely and accurately. Ability to effectively teach peers, subordinates, residents, and family members. Ability to perform CPR, and to monitor the technique of others. Ability to perform venipuncture and initiate IV therapy. Ability to perform physical assessment of chronically ill adults and frail elderly. Reviews daily staff time schedules for assigned shift, assigning and reallocating personnel in accordance with altered service needs; initiates calls to off duty employees in order to fill vacancies. Conducts facility rounds throughout the shift in order to evaluate resident's needs and the quality of nursing care. Provides timely communication regarding the condition of notable residents to the Associate Director for direction. Supports in-service program participation; provides on-the-job training and orientation to unit staff as needed. Evaluates the performance of Patient Care Coordinators and Charge Nurses, and other staff members as assigned, in consultation with the Associate Director. Initiates appropriate disciplinary actions regarding violations of policy; maintains appropriate records and documentation, required records and logs; provides required reports as assigned. Directs and consults with staff regarding care plan development for all residents; assures that the facility's care plans are adhered to on the shift of duty; coordinates with multidisciplinary team and other shift supervisors in order to enforce compliance with established care plan goals and objectives. Monitors adherence to the policies and practices of the institution and local, State and Federal requirements. Serves as initial liaison to residents, family members, and friends of residents as indicated in order to resolve problems; provides direct patient care as indicated, conducts routine drug audits in conjunction with alternate shift supervisors. Provides direct resident assessment based on expertise in this clinical area; serves as consultant to front line staff. Monitors the resident and staff environment for safety concerns and takes prompt action to remedy noted problems. Conducts a variety of audits in order to assess the quality of different aspects of nursing care and documentation when necessary.
