The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve.ESH is directly responsible for the administration Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the school's academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships. ESH works in a transfer schools, serving students who struggled in a traditional high school setting. The program is designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school.Under the direction of the Program Director the Student Advisor will provide support over a wide variety of areas including college and career readiness, academic progress monitoring, day-to-day student issues, social-emotional and personal development. Student Advisors will follow the Primary Person Model where they will be the first point of contact for students, parents, and staff members. It is expected to work collaboratively with our partner school faculty and staff to ensure each student's academic success.Primary FunctionsDuties and Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:Be a primary person of contact for a caseload of approximately 60-70 studentsConduct intake interviews with students and family membersConduct daily attendance, academic, and social-emotional outreach via phone, remotely, or home visitConsult with guidance counselors on student credit accumulation, graduation date, and post-secondary plansConsult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performanceRefer students to academic and support services as neededAttend administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development. Meetings may require virtual attendanceMeet with caseload in a group or individual setting to assist them in their academic, career, and personal goals. Some individual and group work will require the usage of remote platforms, or be socially distancedConduct workshops, social-emotional groups, interest groups, or other groups for caseloadEducate students about colleges, the college admissions process, FAFSA, trends, procedures, and testing; advise students as they go through the process and help them aspire realistically and choose wiselyWalk students through employment opportunitiesConduct informal counseling sessions for students to support their social-emotional developmentDocument all interactions with students on Salesforce, Google Suite, and other data systems as requiredParticipate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House Community DevelopmentParticipate and help arrange field trips, special events and extracurricular activitiesProvide other program support functions as requiredMaintain flexible hours and workdays, some overnight trips requiredSome evenings, weekends, and remote work requiredPlease note that in case of a DOE shutdown, ESH will re-issue protocols accordingly.Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.QualificationsRequired SkillsExperienceB.A B.S.W. degree is required with at least two years youth services experience.Excellent verbal, analytical, written, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and multi-task.Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills.Demonstrated knowledge of community service development.Minimum intermediate knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Teams Google Suite, Zoom, and other petenciesProblem Solving AnalysisCommunication ProficiencyCustomer Service Client FocusTeamwork OrientationTime ManagementAbility to meet deadlines.Required ClearancesDepartment of Education (DOE)COVID Vaccine As a recipient of Federal, State, and local funds, all staff are expected to be fully vaccinated or able to obtain vaccination before their start dateExpected Work ScheduleThis is a full-time position. Monday -Friday, 8:00AM- 4:00PMSome evenings, weekends, and remote work required. Maintain flexible hours and workdays, some overnight trips required. Workdayshours subject to change based on ESHs needs and pending school schedule.Supervisory ResponsibilityThe role has no supervisory responsibilities.Work EnvironmentBusiness casual. This job operates in a school office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.TravelMinimal travel is expected for this position (on a need basis). Most travel will be conducted for the purpose of chaperoning trips, attending ESH events, and conducting home visits.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing and site visits are required.
