Job DescriptionThe Assistant Director of Infection Prevention is a professional with a Master's or nursing degree with broad knowledge and skill in infection control and epidemiology. This individual is responsible for the coordination and management of daily operations of the Infection Control and Blood Body Fluid Exposure programs, project management of infection prevention initiatives designed to improve outcomes and for ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission, NYSDOH, NYCDOH and other regulatory requirements. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Hospital Epidemiologist.ResponsibilitiesRoles & Responsibilities:Assistant Director, Infection Prevention and Surveillance, Mount Sinai BrooklynThe Assistant Director of Infection Prevention is a professional with a Master's or nursing degree with broad knowledge and skill in infection control and epidemiology. This individual is responsible for the coordination and management of daily operations of the Infection Control and Blood Body Fluid Exposure programs, project management of infection prevention initiatives designed to improve outcomes and for ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission, NYSDOH, NYCDOH and other regulatory requirements. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Hospital Epidemiologist.Acts as liaison between the Infection Prevention Officer, Director of Performance Improvement, and Infection Prevention staff members on matters of relevance.Prioritizes tasks and spearheads special projects focused on Infection Prevention initiatives.Supervises professional staff, including and support personnel in collaboration with the Infection Prevention Officer.Responsible for organization, staffing and participation on the Infection Prevention Committee.Provides coverage and back up to Infection Prevention staff as needed.Oversees NYSDOH Hospital Acquired Infection Reporting ( HAI) using the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and NYSDOH, HERDS Health Alert Network.Other relevant duties assigned.Conducts National Nosocomial Infection Surveillance (NHSN) for nosocomial infectionInvestigates and documents possible infectious outbreaks and works with administration and the departments involved to correct the problem.Ensures that infection control guidelines for all departments are current and appropriate.Ensures that JCAHO mandated Infection Control manual is complete and current.Conducts ongoing infection control in-service education programs for all departments.Prepares and delivers specific infection control lectures as needed.Participates in Infection Control Committee meetings by presenting data collected and throughout surveillance periods.Prepares and delivers specific Infection Control lectures as needed.Prepares Infection Control educational materials as needed.Knows CDC Guidelines (NHSN) of Nosocomial Infections.Serves as liaison to Facilities regarding interim life infection control safety issues as they pertain to construction.Serves as liaison to Supply Chain Transformation Initiative regarding safety devices and all Nursing Products that are infection control related.Assists in follow-up of exposures to blood borne pathogens.Serves as member of Hospitals Emergency Management Team.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychological, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serves in assigned areaQualificationsRequirements:Master?s Degree in Nursing, or Health Care Administration, Public Health or relatedNew York State License in Nursing with current registration preferredInfection Control Practices and Barrier Precautions certificationCertificate in Infection Control (CIC) or proof of registration towards certificateProgressive job-related experience specific to infection prevention and epidemiologyGood investigative skills. Ability to write, educate and work independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
