Title: Energy Engineer Location: Upper East Side Org Unit: Energy Management Work Days: Weekdays and some weekends Weekly Hours: 40.00 Exemption Status: ExemptSalary Range: $105,800.00 - $115,100.00 *As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices Position SummaryThe Energy Engineer is responsible for developing and managing campus energy projects to support Weill Cornell Medicine's energy and carbon reduction goals. The role provides technical expertise and project management for equipment upgrades, operational improvements, and electrification initiatives. This position will report to the campus Energy Manager. Job ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement energy projects with the purpose of improving efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.Manage engineering consultants and contractors performing energy feasibility studies, engineering design, and project implementation.Ensure deliverables meet technical standards and are accurate. Supervise on-site contractors and oversee project execution to meet energy performance targets.Monitor of Building Management Systems (BMS) regularly, promptly identifying and resolving retro-commissioning issues via the work order system. Coordinate with appropriate trades as necessary and verify issue resolution through field inspections.Collect and analyze field data related to energy usage using tools such as data loggers, light meters, and balometersanemometers.Continuously seek opportunities to improve building energy performance and operational efficiency.Assess the technical feasibility of energy projects, considering factors such as physical space conditions, engineering concepts, construction, maintenance impacts, operator requirements, and campus standards.Develop and deliver trainings on completed energy efficiency projects to building operator teams. Foster knowledge sharing and support facilities staff in operating buildings efficiently.Track and report on progress toward compliance with NYC local laws and regulations, including lighting system upgrades, energy audits, and retro-commissioning.Support the Energy Manager with planning for long-term campus energy and decarbonization goals, and contribute to capital planning related to NYC Local Law 97.EducationBachelor's Degree in Engineering, Energy Management or related fieldExperience Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Strong knowledge of building systems, HVAC, and system controls. Hands-on experience with building management systems, sequence of operations, lighting controls, andor energy management systems preferred. Experience in a research or medical facility environment is preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work independently and take initiative in problem-solving.Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Strong interest in fieldwork and project management.Licenses and CertificationsCertifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), or Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) are preferred.Working ConditionsPhysical DemandsPosition requires both indoor and outdoor work.Periodic work in research spaces, mechanical equipment rooms, crawl spaces, areas with restricted access and noise conditions is expected.Periodic use of ladders to perform work is required.May frequently lift or carry large heavy or cumbersome office related materials. May stand for long periods. Occasional exposure to moving or lifting heavy objects while troubleshooting systems.
