This position reports to Engineering Manager II - Mechanical and is located at Banner's global headquarters in Plymouth, MN. What You'll Be Doing Supporting customer applications by verifying application feasibility or investigating application issuesCreating or revising designs within their disciplineUsing tools and hands-on experimentation to explore design considerationsPerforming tolerance stack analyses, advanced hand calculations, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and failure analysesIdentifying and resolving a wide variety of mechanical design issuesLearning Banner technologies, processes, and product lineSupporting product development efforts with cross-functional teamsProviding work direction to Technicians as necessary Developing and executing product test plans on assigned projectsPerforming competitive product testingUsing Oracle ERP for cost analyses and operation dataAuthoring design FMEA's with some guidanceCreating and managing product documentation including bill of materials (BOMs), design verification reports, dimensional prints, and engineering change orders (ECOs) Adhering to compliance regulations set forth by various agencies, such as CE, UL, etc. Resolving part and process issues by working with production engineering, manufacturing, and suppliersWorking with global suppliers on qualifying mechanical parts made from a variety of processes including injection molding, machining, metal-forming, and die-castingDocumenting product specifications, generating concept ideas, and assists with concept selection based on rating criteriaPerforming qualification tests to ensure conformance to specificationsDeveloping detailed designs and documentation, including tolerance analysis, for collaboration with suppliers in the DFM processOther duties as assignedWhat You Bring to the Table To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, and regular attendance is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to support individuals with disabilities.RequiredBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field 0-5 years of related engineering experiencePreferredStrong working knowledge of Solid Modeling, Creo preferredBasic knowledge of FEA, CFD, Moldflow, and motion analysisWorking knowledge of fabrication processes, such as plastic injection molding, machining, metal forming, die-casting, plating, laser cutting, and 3D printingUnderstanding of material properties of plastics, metals, and metal platingAbility to understand product requirements as they relate to customer needsData driven design analysisAbility to conduct comprehensive product design reviewsAbility to work independently or as part of a teamStrong communication skills and ability to multitaskIntermediate experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel Experience in product design for industrial applications Experience planning and leading projectsExposure to advanced assembly techniques, such as SMD, COB, ultrasonic welding, laser welding, insertovermolding, and epoxy encapsulationExperience designing plastic injection molded parts including analysis with mold flowWorking knowledge of metrology and associated equipment (CMM, Calipers, thread gauges, drop gages, etc)Supervisory Responsibilities NoneWhat to Expect at WorkPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
