The ideal candidate is self-motivated, enthusiastic about learning new skills, and has experience working with traffic cabinets and crosswalk infrastructure as well as street light repair and troubleshooting. Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the Service Technician, under the immediate supervision of a Department Manager or Supervisor is responsible for a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the delivery of City services and maintenance of City buildings, roadways, grounds, and equipment.Certification in Level 1 or 2 Traffic Signal Technician or Level 1 or 2 Roadway Lighting Technician through IMSA preferred.Has proven ability in oral and written communication.Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in pletion of secondary education (high school or GED) and must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy.Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within 6 months of hire. CDL training is provided at the expense of the city. Can pass the City's Physical Fitness Exam, which will be administered on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Certification in Level 1 or 2 Traffic Signal Technician or Level 1 or 2 Roadway Lighting Technician through IMSA preferred.This role is part of the AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) Trade Union and participates in the OPERS pension system. Essential Functions of the Position The Service Technician shall have the following duties under their direct supervisor:Has skill, knowledge, and ability of operation and controls within City owned traffic cabinets and intersection infrastructure including the use of Tactics, Iteris, Opticom, and Polara software. Minor electrical work including street light repair, replacement and troubleshooting. Operation and maintenance of City owned equipment and vehicles.Repair streets, curbs, catch basins, broken sewer and water infrastructure, mowing, litter pick-up, leaf collection, snow and ice removal, dig ditches or trenches, rough and finish carpentry work, trim andor cut trees and brush, minor concrete work, some welding, paints streetlights and traffic signal poles, installs seasonal flags and banners, assists with providing power to seasonal holiday displays and special even set-ups, and other related activities associated with the Department of Public Service.Maintains contact with City personneldepartments, the general public, and various government agenciesofficials in order to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential position functions.Maintains required licensures and certification, if any.Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.Obeys and promptly executes all orders of the Administrative Assistant.Performs other related duties as assigned.
