We are pleased that you are interested in career opportunities offered at MICA.General purpose: The Biofabrication Lab Technician assists with the general operations of the Biofabrication Lab; supports fall, spring, and summer instruction and student homework access to the Biofabrication Lab following campus protocols; supports research in the studio; and has access to the facility to pursue individual research outside of work hours. Summary of Essential Functions Assist with the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Biofabrication Lab, ensuring that all equipment operates effectively and safely, and supplies are stocked and available.Supervise students during open lab hours, and assist with supervision in a class setting when needed.Serve as an educational resource, and support Undergraduate students regarding related processes of the Biofabrication LabProvide assistance to Fabrication Studios full-time staff.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Maintaining Environmental Health and Safety compliance and required documentation, enforcing EHS policies, modeling safe studio practices, and generally ensuring safetyProvide technical support to students in the Biofabrication LabAssist with monitoring and maintaining equipment in the Biofabrication LabEnforce lab policies and demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of equipment, tools, materials, techniques, and processes in the Biofabrication LabProvide assistance and guidance to any Biofabrication Lab student workers (student technicians, work-study, or teaching assistants)Prepare media and cultures to support academic activities, and help maintain other supplies and stocks via regular check lists and communication with the Biofabrication FacultyShare research to enhance the Biofabrication Lab and classes held therein.Assist with developing and maintaining digital resources such as protocols, standard operating procedures, chemical inventories and other resources on the lab website and shared drive.Perform other related duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Practical working experience with microbiology and related processes and equipment.Demonstrated ability to maintain sterile working conditions and cell culturesAbility to assess and trouble-shoot issues with cell cultures, laboratory processes, and lab equipmentStrong organizational skillsAbility to collaborate with students and facultyEffective and timely communication skillsMinimum qualifications: Bachelor, Fine Art or a four-year degree with experience working in biotechnologyDemonstrated experience working in a Biosafety Level 1 laboratoryPreferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience working with, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of biology laboratory equipmentExperience overseeing and maintaining student safety in a laboratory setting.Experience working in a higher education art and design contextDemonstrated knowledge of biomaterials, with experience growing, creating, and utilizing themDemonstrated knowledge of synthetic biology and experience with techniques such as CRISPR Cas9Demonstrated knowledge of other digital and traditional fabrication technologies intersecting with biofabricationFamiliarity with contemporary discourse of biodesign, and the social and ethical implications of biotechnologyReporting to this position:No direct reportsConditions of Employment: Candidate must successfully complete a full background checkRequired to work evenings and weekendsRequired to perform deep cleaning and disinfecting of lab equipment and toolsApplicant Instructions:Submit PDF document to include:ResumeCover Letter (1 page single spaced, 12pt) - qualifications, experience, what interests you about this position?Portfolio of Related Work - website (preferred) or PDF at reasonable resolution.
