Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Work Shifts7:00 A.M - 8:00 P.MJob DescriptionPurpose:To provide intensive nursing care to critically ill and unstable patients; such care includes ongoing monitoring of vital functions, assessing significant changes and initiating appropriate interventions.Specific Duties and Responsibilities:The Staff Nurse (RN) of ICU is charged with and responsible for:1) Assess and monitors patients conditions and initiates appropriate nursing intervention including direct patient care.2) Provides nursing assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, intervention and evaluation.3) Provision of life support for patients who are compromised hemodynamically andor respiratory impaired.4) Monitoring of invasive lines (Arterial lines, Swan-Ganz) to provide data for hemodynamic stabilization.5) Evaluation of cardiac rhythms and administration of drips according to protocols.6) Utilization of protocol in weaning and extubation of patients.7) Maintenance of intracranial pressure monitoring.8) Titration of medications according to protocols.9) Defibrillation of patients as necessary; assistance in cardioversion when indicated.10) Provision of care for patients with balloon pumpMAST trouserspneumatic stockings, Sengstaken-Blakemore Tube.11) Initiative of patientfamily education and psychosocial support to familysignificant other.12) Performance of the duties described in the generic Staff Nurse job description.13) Maintain clinical competency through participation in education, attendance at mandatory classes, BLS, ACLS Renewal and knowledge of current Critical Care standards.14) Participates in performance improvement, JCT, and infection control activities.15) Provide age appropriate care to adolescent, young, middle age, and geriatric patients within the unit.Minimum Qualifications1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and2. One (1) year of clinical nursing experience in the specialty area in which assigned to float; and3. Holds or obtains a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).Department Preferences1. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient and staff population2. Proficient in electronic medical records, specifically EPIC3. Exhibits ICARE standards 4.
