This list will be in effect for a period of one year. ABOUT THE CITY:The City of La Habra is a vibrant Southern California community, strategically located in the northwest corner of Orange County, where it benefits from the greater economies of both Orange and Los Angeles counties. When the City incorporated in 1925, the La Habra valley was a largely agricultural community comprised of farms and ranches but included a significant local oil industry. Over the past century, the City has transitioned to a fully built out suburban community of residential neighborhoods, commercial businesses and industrial manufacturing. Over the past 30 years the City has invested heavily in economic development and public infrastructure, and offers a rich assortment of community services programs, events, and activities. Today the City is home to a population of over 63,000 residents within La Habra's 7.3 square miles. A friendly and diverse community, La Habra is conveniently located within an hour's drive of many beaches, mountains, and desert recreation areas. The City is known for the Corn Festival, Citrus Fair, Tamale Festival and the jewel of La Habra, its Children's Museum. While the City has planned for and encourages measured growth, it retains a small town feel and lives up to its heritage as "A Caring Community." ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:Since 1925, the La Habra Police Department has been dedicated to providing the residents of this community with a safe environment in which to live and work. This commitment to service is a tradition upheld by the men and women who serve La Habra and is reflected in all aspects of the department's day-to-day operations.ABOUT THE POSITION:Under supervision performs a wide variety of general andor specialized office support, clerical , and technical work in support of the Police Department; collects, indexes, processes, maintains, retrieves, copies, and distributes confidential law enforcement data and information; performs a variety of record keeping functions including processing police reports; receives and provides assistances to the public at the front counter and over the telephone; and provides other support and assistance to other non-sworn functions and activities of the Police Department. Examples of Duties (The following duties represent the principal job duties; however, they are not all inclusive.) Searches and retrieves information from files, computer records, and other documents in response to specific requests.Verifies, enters, prints, copies and distributes arrest, traffic, and miscellaneous reports to authorized staff, other law enforcement agencies, and other authorized parties.Conducts criminal history checks using California Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (CLETS) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).Assists the public at the counter and by telephone with police records rules and procedures, vehicle releases, copies of reports, licensing and collection of fees for services.Prepares document packages for Court.Scans documents and records using Laserfiche and other scanning system(s).Types a variety of forms, letters, memorandums, and other documents.Sends and receives teletype messages from other agencies and confirms receipt.Provides bail information to bail bond company or to appropriate parties.Assists the jail staff with matron teracts with North Court personnel, including but not limited to, judges, attorneys, civilians and police witnesses.Handles all documents, data-entry, and records related to Animal Control.Performs other related duties as required Typical Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of:Basic law enforcement functions.General knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; skill in preparing and maintaining accurate, detailed time sensitive records. Ability to:Operate standard office equipment.Type at a corrected speed of 40 words per minute.Ensure and maintain confidentiality of police records and files.Work independently and proof own anize and complete assigned tasks and meet deadlines.Carry out oral and written directions.Work cooperatively and accurately with a large staff.Deal effectively with the public and provide excellent customer service.Work under pressure.Must be available to work holidays and weekends as well as day, night and graveyard shifts. Supplemental InformationSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires ability and willingness to work rotation of days, swing and graveyard shifts, including holidays and weekends. Education and Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill andor ability required. A high school diploma or general education (GED) and two years experience performing increasing responsible clerical duties including demonstrated proficiency in data entry. The ideal candidate for this position should have superior customer service, organization and communications skills. Must be able to type 40 net words per minute.Bilingual (EnglishSpanish) is preferred. License Requirement: Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license.PHYSICAL DEMANDSRequires the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving lifting and moving files, and moving from one area of the office to another and may require sitting for prolonged periods of time; requires sufficient handeye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as data entry and the use of calculators. Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination, as well as oral communications ability. The City pays a flat rate portion of the premium according to the bargaining unit agreement.DENTAL INSURANCE:Three (3) plans are available. The City pays a flat rate portion of the premium according to the bargaining unit agreement.VISION INSURANCE:The City pays a flat rate portion of the premium. The Employee may pay a portion of the insurance premium according to the bargaining unit agreement and this benefit is voluntary.LIFE INSURANCE:Amount of coverage is based on the employee bargaining unit. The City pays a flat rate portion of the premium according to the bargaining unit agreement.LONG TERM DISABILITY (LTD):Employees in this group are required to be enrolled in Long Term Disability (LTD). Premiums will be entirely employee-paid.RETIREMENT:CalPERS 2% @ 60 with a 8% employee contribution (classic); new members 2% @ 62 with a 50% of the normal cost plus 1% cost sharing (PEPRA). The City of La Habra does not participate in Social Security.RETIREMENT HEALTH SAVINGS (RHS): Employee contributes $20 per month to a Retirement Health Savings (RHS) account and the City contributes $10 per month for each unit member.DEFERRED COMPENSATION:The City offers MissionSquare Retirement (formerly ICMA-RC) as its deferred compensation administrator. This is a voluntary benefit with no City contribution.VACATION:Earned at the rate of eighty (80) hours per year for the first four (4) years of service. Additional vacation may be earned by employees after five (5) years of service.SICK LEAVE:Earned at the rate of ten (10) hours per month.PERSONAL DAY:All members are granted a personal day per calendar year.HOLIDAYS:An average of eleven (11) holidays per year.
