Description This role is open to candidates within the Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Maryland NiSource territory. Job SummaryLead complex and non-recurring special projects, initiatives and teams. Deliver technical leadership, process and design standardization, and peer development across NiSource engineering. This effort supplements engineering managers and leaders as a leadership resource with responsibilities beyond the expected capabilities of a senior engineer.The principal engineer will review and certify complex designs for natural gas distributiontransmission facility installations covering new business, public and system improvement, and maintenance projects according to company standards and other applicable guidelines and codes. Natural gas distributiontransmission facilities may consist of main lines, service lines, and measurement & regulation equipment. The principal engineer will provide technical assistance and support for Construction and Field Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of distributiontransmission facilities. Collaborate and coordinate efforts with key stakeholders on large projects.Well executed special projects and initiativesResponsible charge over and certificationstamping of complex projectsTechnically strong engineering team membersConsistent results in design and planning across NiSourceEnsure safe and reliable delivery of energy services at best costMeet or exceed internalexternal customer expectationsSafeefficient high quality engineering designs that comply with policies, practices, standards, and applicable codesProductivity and performance results that meet or exceed expectationsTimely delivery of all facility designsConsistent communication with key stakeholders and business partnersSupport post and pre winter operation system reviews.Essential FunctionsPerform project manager responsibilities for special projects and initiativesReview, evaluate, and exercise responsible charge and certify designs, according to state requirements, over projects being designed by other engineersConduct QAQC and follow-up development for engineering activitiesRepresent engineering for development of process, material and gas standardsSupplement engineering leadership and serve in an engineering leader role on an interim basis as need.Review permit applications, easement requests, material lists, MAOP documentation, as-built drawings, inventory records, contract bid documentation, and other necessary work order package artifacts to ensure sound execution of design and installation.Prepare feedback on detailed design drawingsSupport Operations employees in emergency situationsProvide training and guidance to new personnelAct as liaison to state, county, and local government officialsParticipate in winter preparedness reviewsRequired Qualifications For PositionBachelor's Degree in an Engineering curriculum from an EACABET accredited college or university.5 years of related engineering experienceDemonstrated expertise and capabilities in project managementExperience and knowledge that meets the requirements as set forth in the engineering advancement criteriaKnowledge of company and industry codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and proceduresStrong communication and interpersonal skillsProfessional Engineer (PE) License in state(s) being supported Upon HirePreferred Additional Qualifications for PositionMaster's Degree in Business or Engineering10 years of gas distribution experience5 years of gas distribution engineering experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) License Professional Engineering license in multiple NiSource state Upon HirePhysical DemandsThe preceding description is not designed to be a complete list of all duties and responsibilities required of the position.This role is open to candidates within the Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Maryland NiSource territory.
